Yes, you can get a lot of sharpness, especially if you stop down (like most lenses). Here's one stopped down to f/8 or f/11. If you zoom in on Flickr, you can make out the price on the sign for the stack of chairs in this photo.

Leica M5, Nikkor-P.C 8.5cm f/2 LTM, Ilford HP5+, developed in LegacyPro L110 at 1:31 for 5.5 minutes.

The 180mm F2.8 CZJ Sonnar is one of the principal reasons people go into the Kiev 60/Pentacon Six/Arax/Exakta 66 system. I sold off my P6/Kiev stuff, but I really miss this lens. So I bought a cheap Zebra version, and hacked it to my Plaubel Makiflex 6x9 cameras. Time for a beer
