When I used to shoot color film (it's been a few years now), Fuji Reala was my most frequent choice -- great stuff! I also used a lot of Fuji Press 400, which I couldn't tell apart from Reala (still got a bunch of it in the freezer, I think). But my favorites were probably NPS 160 and NPC 400 - just beautiful.

1) Ferrania 400 because it has a gritty, almost black and white soul. It is no longer being made but still is available.
2) Kodak UltraMax 400, a little slicker than Ferrania 400; it does monochrome subjects very well.
3) Portra vc160 for pretty things.
4) Kodak Gold 200 for checking out cameras and lenses. It is inexpensive to buy and inexpensive to process.

Your poll would have been more interesting for specific films, not film makers. For instance, I selected Kodak, but I don't use Kodak Gold. I prefer Kodak Portra 160 VC & NC. I sometimes use Kodak Ektar 100. But, we seem to be filling in the details in our personal posts.

Fuji ProPlus 100, 800Z, 400H and 160C. And now with the demise of K64, Velvia 50 & 100.

I really WANT to like Ektar 100 the best, but I can't get consistent color when scanning it.

What I CAN seem to work with is Fujicolor Pro 160S...I like it a lot.

I really like the Ektar but I want to try the Pro 160S in 120 format. I've used it in 135 and it was fantastic, but I let WalMart develop it because I was not set up to do it myself at the time.

I almost ordered some Portra to give it a try, but I went for the Fuji 160S in 220 format for the moment. When that's done, I'll try the Portra.

Having been a bit all over the place since the demise of Kodachrome (I have never shot a great deal of C41 before) I have finally settled on:

Portra NC - reportage, street, landscape, portraits
Ektar - reportage, street, landscape

Superb films. I will use Fuji 400H if I have it, or if I am all out and in a town where it doesn't have what I use above, then I will use Superia 200 or 400 - Kodak Gold is a nice film, but it's also very variable and I've had some Kodak Gold back that was horrid in its blotchy colour.

For most of my color work: Kodak Portra 160/400NC

Extreme mixed available light: Fuji Pro 800

Still-life/architectural: Kodak Ektar 100

Agfa Vista 400

I also like the Agfa Vista (found the 400 at ca. $5 a roll for 36 exposures).

I also like this Portra 400-

Cannot think of anything else better than Portra 160 on MF. It is excellent in any way and very forgiving when my stupid mind is not focused to taking that photo.

In 35mm Kodak Ektar is my favourite by far. And Ultramax from the cheapies. Maybe because both scan great with the Pakon.

In 120 I prefer slide film for color, but I recently bought few rolls of Agfa Ultra 50 (expired in 1994) that somehow seems unique, in a good way, to me.

Kodak Ektar, especially with uncoated, or single-coated, lenses. Otherwise, as the light conditions and usable aperture dictate, Portra 160, 400, or 800 as appropriate.

I've mostly been an Ektar 100 shooter but lately have been getting into the huge dynamic range, extended highlight detail and pastel pallet of Portra 400

Ektar 100 is the primary film I choose to shoot with my Nikons and Pentax point&shoot. My Contaflex III seems to perform the best with Portra 160.

I also like to shoot ColorPlus 200 (because its cheap), which looks best when scanned with a Fuji Frontier.

A year ago I would have answered portra, but recently I’ve been shooting Kodak Color Plus 200 and have been impressed ... a really beautiful all ourpose daylight film...
