The Hassie just arrived, and as luck would have it it's a late-model 500C (serial number indicates 1971) with interchangeable focussing screen.

When I spoke to Ken Ruth at "Photography on Bald Mountain" last month, he suggested to me that I obtain Schneider Componon lenses as he thinks they are really good useful performers. I found this nice 150mm F5.6 Chrome Schneider Componon on Ebay, a good price at $42. It arrived today and it is in excellent condition. After a good cleaning, I mounted it onto a Peco Jr Plaubel board (slightly recessed) and it looks great through the camera, from infinity, to extreme close-up. I'm sure it will get use in the future. Here it is on the Makiflex Standard, focused at infinity.

An 18mm ZM

(Of course, picking up the latter two used and cheap caused the first one to be shipped and billed the same day, for maximum spending pain...)

Thank you. I am already ... This is the fourth 180/2.8 I've owned since 1978, albeit the first AF version. It's a wonderful lens, just at the far limit of what I am normally looking for in terms of focal length.

I was a little surprised to see that the AF model, although it looks bulkier than the AI-S model, is actually a little slimmer and a little lighter in my memory. I haven't looked up the spec to see if its actually true. :-)

Nikon d750 and MB-D16 battery grip. Reluctantly decided I needed a digital camera to share pics as I am always struggling to scan a large backlog of negs. Chose body to take advantage of Nikon af lenses and flashes that I already have for my F6 bodies. I did consider getting a mirrorless Fuji Xt-1, oly em-1 or sony a7 II to use my numerous OM lenses, but decided I wanted full af for my aging eyes.

A vintage Mamiya-6 folder from the 1950s. Focus wheel is a little stiff, rangefinder patch is poor but the glass, bellows and film chamber are in very good shape.

I got a Zeiss Planar 50/2 ZM to use as a backup for my Summicron 50/2 v6, which I suspect has a virus. I need two good 50's anyhow, one for the M2 (for B&W) and another for the M6 (for color).

I'm still on the honeymoon with my Leica X2 camera, which seems able to produce IQ as good as any of my film cameras and lenses. However, there is still the digital ambiance (for want of a better word) which is as different from film as digital audio CD's are from analog LP's, but this seems impossible to specify or measure. It's not that one is superior to the other, but a matter of subjective impression.

You can measure it, it's midtone contrast and color reproduction. With digital audio it's probably pre ringing from the oversampling on the analog to digital and digital to analog conversions.

I bought a really nice 1976 Japanese K1000.

After 3 years away from Leica (and RFF) I'm back, more or less.

I have picked up a beater M8, my most favourite lens of all time - 35mm F1.4 preASPH & a new 75mm Summarit-M. Picking up an M4 from a friend of mine this coming week too
