Leica M6 panda

Hi,

I am a new owner of an M6 panda. I should get it next week. Obviously, I can't wait to go through the first roll. What can you say about this camera (beside its physical appearance)? Higher value?

Exactly the same operation of all M6 comparable models. It does run several hundred dollars higher that the chrome or black but that depends on condition.

Congrats! I am a happy M6 owner myself. I personally feel it is the all-round best M film camera. Perfect? No, but most versatile.

Dealers try to (and I am sure often do) get more for the panda version because not as many were made, but functionally, there is no difference. As with all cameras you plan on using and not putting on a shelf, don't worry much about its value. Just use it to make pictures!

The Panda M6 is handsome. I have a standard M6 TTL (.58) and love it.
I don't know about actual value.

Enjoy... Burn 1000 rolls every year and wear it out.

The Panda isn't actually a special edition or anything like that. In fact, I think there were Pandas and non pandas made in same batches because parts were limited. I could probably replace some parts on a chrome M6 to black and it would have the same value as a factory panda.

I do think that its a nice/unique looking camera and would love one for myself.

Me personally, I made an anti-panda. Not that I have anything against your Panda.

I took an M6 Classic in black chrome, and put a silver chrome M3 winding lever and a few M6 chrome spare parts on it. I think it's like NicoM says, the premium is roughly equal to the cost of buying and replacing a few parts on the camera. If you like the look of them, which I do, then go for it.

Cheers,
Rob

I recently browsed around some used Leica sites and found Panda version is usually 10% cheaper than black chrome and silver, given similar camera conditions. To me, Pandas are rarer than the other two. Don't know why the price is marked lower. Any idea?

I had a panda once and the information I had at the time was simply that Leica ran out of matching parts and in true Leica style (rather arrogantly) grabbed whatever happened to be in the parts bin. I now have an all black M6, which is what I wanted in the first place.

Exclamation Panda = Running out of Parts?

If Tony's version is true then the silver version is a black chrome version running out of black parts? Interesting.
