A question for Tom... or someone else.

This question is purely out of curiosity.

My Summilux ver2 has 'GERMANY' written on the bottom of it while all other summilux's I've ever seen have 'MADE IN GERMANY' written there.

Is mine special

Same as other Leica lenses within the same period, "GERMANY" for early production run, "MADE IN GERMANY" or "LENS MADE IN GERMANY" for later production run. In general, earlier one has better, smoother satin chrome finish than later one. Hope this help.

I think they had to change it when they joined EU too. I have seen both type of engravings on the vII Summiluxes. Some of the changes to surface treatment also came about due to changes in the rules governing "toxic" processes.

My 1961 Dual Range Summicron has GERMANY in the same place.
