That weekend is still looking good - I should be able to play this year :-)

Kent, is there a gathering planned in SF for some decisive beer and food ordering ?

I'm glad you take part Joe!

My usual dilemma... what to shoot. I'm thinking about doing one day digital, another film. I have a new-to-me Nikon S3 2000 that really needs some work.

I'm in too. Do one have to apply here or just submit the photos? I have two friends who might join in as well, I'm not sure if they are on RFF though.

Getting excited about this now. Gonna be working digital, I'm afraid, as I can't afford film processing now I'm out of a job, but I've been cleaning cameras. Not decided where to head yet.

All entries must be shot on either December 14th or 15th 2013. Those shot before or after will be eliminated form the competition. Only one entry per person please. Entries received before December 14th will be omitted.
This may confuse some folks. I'm assuming the days should be shifted one day one way, and the year one year the other.

Pretty much the same for me too. Though I'll enter something regardless as, having said numerous times how I'd like to join in, this will be the first time I've managed to be free on the right weekend. I don't remember getting anything that seemed interesting so unless there's a nice surprise in there I'll be happy with the chance to take part.

Looking forward to seeing the entries

Yeah, I think I came up empty too. I spent most of the weekend chasing whisky bottles, so it was not a total loss.

I shot about three rolls of Tri-X, going through it now to see if anything worthwhile turns up. I should be able to find something suitable; how good it is is another question.

Went out Saturday and Sunday, developed most of the film Sunday night. Nothing very 'decisive' but I will post what I like best soon.

This challenge was well-timed for me - I took a break from photography for two months while I was setting up new darkroom space, this happily co-incided with my getting it operational.

Simon, most of the photos in past challenges were not really 'decisive moment' in the HCB sense (well, I had one once, but it didn't win!)

Just pick the one you like best, and don't worry about the context. I will lay odds that you have something exceptional. ;-)

He probably will.

I had a decent time wandering round XXXXXXXXXXX. Quite a few interesting images, but nothing really leaping out at me.

Still mean to enter.

Getting something remotely 'decisive' over two very specific days is an extremely tough ask (especially if you try and avoid the mobile phone/umbrella shots that are such a fall back ) but then thats why I always fancied joining in with the challenge.

You're being very kind too, though I'll happily bet against you on this one...I could do with the extra cash

Oh no!

There were a lot of photographers there.

And i don't expect to be seriously in contention anyway.

And would you mind awfully editing out my slip.

Thank you.

I must be daft to have pointed it out and then repeated the same mistake!! Rectified now.

I'll keep an eye out for what may... or may not be your entry

Good luck.

Uploaded one. Job done. Now just sit back and think..."should I have gone with the other image?" Still, at least I've finally got around to taking part.

Wanted to shoot film but the computer my scanner works on craped out. So I went out with the XE-1. Saturday was a complete waste. A few blown opportunities, freezing cold, nobody venturing outside. (end of whine) Sunday did not look much better, but I decided to put on "the big boy pants" and purpose to capture a "decisive moment". I was not coming home until I captured something I would not be embarrassed submitting.

As fate would have it the place I chose to shoot had a couple of events going on. Shot about seventy images (I shoot digital like I shoot film) and came up with two possible entries.

Submitted one this morning, but like Simon I wonder if it was the better of the two. Well, it was fun after all. Happy to have taken part.

Steve

Submitted.

Just a note, some of the dates on the site appear to be different than those listed in the first post of this thread, and when the entry is submitted, the message still references the Summer 2013 event.

Last Day to Submit an image.

All submittals must be made by 11:59PM California time on January 4th (today).

Good Luck!

@02pilot- The confirmation message is in fact wrong. No big deal but the app I'm using is being stubborn and I was unable to change it.

Arrrgh! I missed the submission deadline. But I have a good reason.....
A very large tree fell on my house Dec. 12th. My wife was in the house with a terrible flu at the time. She and the rest of my family are fine, but this incident made it difficult to think about any challenge other than what to do about fixing my home and addressing the financial consequences.

Still, even though I was also sick and very distracted by the recent disaster, I wandered around town and made a few shots (therapeutic; I think most of us here can relate).

The holidays were far from relaxing as the remainder of my family got quite sick. But that wasn't enough.... my washing machine decided to go rogue and actually walked violently around destroying further portions of my home before self-destructing (I know, it just doesn't seem possible). Again, distracted. Add to that the constant drone of chainsaws in my yard as the remaining large trees were cut and removed. Not an easy task in an urban setting and the process yet further damaged my home. Again, distracted.

Today, I finally gave thought to photography again (and the Decisive Challenge). I proceeded to submit a photo and *then* read about the deadlines. Errrr. Not much is going right this new year. I don't know if I can handle another year like 2014.

Not looking for pity. Just want to let folks know I tried and I nearly made it. I think the Decisive Challenge is a great, fun idea and I fully intended to participate. I hope there's another.

****! Just realized I missed the deadline as well! For some reason I thought it was the middle of the month.

Well, I will just put them in the gallery.

Now there is no way I can lose!

Just for the record, you have my deepest sympathy. That sounds truly miserable, and I hope you and your family get past this.

I think the washing machine would have made it into a Twilight Zone episode!

Not posted yet. The target was for them to be posted on January 7th and voting would run from January 7th through January 18th.

That said, it's a lot of work to tally the votes, post the photos, respond to inquiry's, etc. My guess is that it's just taking a bit longer than expected.

Cheers!

Hi all! My apologies for not getting the images up yet, we had a bit of a family emergency. I will get them up for voting by EOD Monday and I'll set a new voting deadline as well.

My apologies.
