Since the whole project is about their enthusiasm and respect for Leica, let’s just leave the politics issue out of here. Please put yourself in their shoes. It’s not about freedom of speech. They have the right to stay away from the political arguments. Again, they don’t want to get involved in any unpredictable issues. I hope you can understand and respect the decision of the maker.

There are few people alive anymore who can really tell the difference between two fast lenses from prints or negatives.

It is only a matter of physics. f/2 is f/2 is f/2. Light is light. Film is film. No think. Just shoot.

For your convenience, here is a remind for the detail of the first batch Replica

*Here I summarised some important information for the first batch 8-element replica.

The first batch 8-element Replica:
Use flint lead-glass like the original one (Note: Supply will be limit since flint glass is hard to find now even in China)
Two types of single coating like the original one
The lens body is crafted in brass
Each lens will include brass made front and rear lens caps. The lens will also be stored in an aluminum alloy container (All metal, no plastic will be used in this project.)
Three paint options: Black Paint / Chrome / Brass
Free engraving service for each lens(Numbers/Alphabet, 8/9 spaces)
Retail price will be $499 + shipping (There will be an extra cost if you have a special request that require extra labor cost. Please understand.)

Engrave will come with the order itself. I think there will be an official purchase form need to be filled out. All the options and engraving information are on the purchase form.

Yes, all the lenses will have the front ring for engraving. I am sorry for confusing you. The brass lens in the second picture is the first version prototype. This picture is an example only to show you all three paint options. They are not the final retail version.

Hi Kevin,

Will the custom engraving be in white paint? (I notice that the word "prototype" in your photo's is in red paint)

Chris.

(ps. thank's for your email.)

Hi Chris, you can choose either in red paint or white paint for the custom engraving. The default color for engraving will be in red paint.

I have. Makes this unique offering really unique.
I have plenty of black and chrome lenses and my only brass ones are my Petzvals.

Plus it is a fact that people with brass lenses are extremely good looking, charming, intelligent and modest.

I've chosen black paint over brass...it will become brass eventually. Life is a journey; not a destination!

Brass is also cockney rhyming slang for a certain type of street worker.

This is all marvellous. No personalisation for me!

The maker told me that there will be a special coating applied on the brass body to make it looks better and prevent it from oxidation. I will ask the maker for more details about this.

I'm fascinated by the reaction here to this lens. Is the enthusiasm at the Leica Forum similar or is it seen as a 'cut price' interloper over there?

Passing mention.
The exuberance seems isolated to this Joint. I think Kevin Forever posted over there too. Don't recall people shouting out order requests.

But by the same token, I doubt the moderators there would have tolerated someone starting and promoting his new import business off of a running thread. Head Bartender here is in the same line of work so I’m puzzled by the free pass.

Just speaking for myself, I'm intrigued by this specialty low-volume item that harks back to a celebrated Leica lens, and would like to see how things develop. MS Optical may be thought in a somewhat similar way, with different goals than Cosina/Voigtlander. I still use my 1967 8-element 35 Summicron, 6-bit coded by DAG for the M8, and see the attraction.
