Battery Cover on M7

Is there a clever way to make the battery cover on my M7 easier to remove/replace when changing batteries, without compromising the aesthetics of the camera?

Try wearing a rubber glove when you try to remove the cover. It will give you a better grip.

It is really that hard to take the battery cover off? I never had that problem with my M7.

It is that difficult on my M7. But this morning, after checking and replacing the batteries, the battery cover fell off (because it was not fully locked) while I was doing some test shots around the house. Out on the street that would have been a small disaster.

Don Goldberg at DAG Camera used to have a couple of options for different battery covers. I don't know if he still does. - jim

There is, or was, a battery cover for some of the Ms that had a slot milled into it. Some were actually shipped with cameras. Don't know if there's a part number or if anyone at Leica has that info. Don Goldberg would be a good one to try. You can also use one of those rubber jar openers - the ones that look like a flat round sheet with little knobs on them.

Yes there is. Not pleasing to look at but very practical. We had a moan recently about the battery covers in this thread.

Thanks for the confirmation, Lawrence.

I checked a couple places after DAG's site had none. Call and see whether it'll fit an M7, if the price doesn't drive you up the wall:

I did see one site that had them priced at $35.

A slotted battery cover came with the Leica MP, at least with my camera when I bought it. However, with my M7 I face the opposite problem, the battery cover is not really a tight fit and I am afraid losing it.

Don Goldberg has a lot more parts than listed on his web site. You need to call him and ask.

I never cease to be impressed by the willingness of members here to help other members. Thanks for that.
As soon as the time difference (east-west coast) permits, I'll call Don.

According to Don, there is no slotted battery cover provided by Leica for the M7. Don had an M7 at hand, and he also had trouble with the battery cover.

I have one, chrome, bought in Frankfurt a few years ago. Makes a chrome M6 look like it has a self timer...
