Question What would you expect to pay for...?

Found a nice looking M2 repaint that was recently CLA'd by a very trusted repair source.

What would be a "reasonable" price to pay for such a body?
  • I know that "reasonable" is a subjective term.
  • I am not new to rangefinders, or film photography for that matter, but definitely new to the world of Leica.
  • If this were medium or large format I'd already know the answer! LOL
Thanks in advance!

This is from my "source" as of today:
"M2 ST, chrome, c.1965, quick load spool, cap, CLA'd, $925."

Repaint doesn't mean anything without info. It could be home baked or send to Japan.
Personally, I see no reason to pay more for repaint. IMO, Chrome is better.

I`d imagine it would be the price of a used silver M2 plus the price of the paint job...

Ko.Fe. has it. It depends on the quality of the repaint whether I would entertain buying it.

up to $2000 depending on who did the repaint and CLA, what condition it was in.

I found a nice chrome M2 with recent service for $650 a little while ago....
Repaints vary a lot. I wouldn't turn down a repaint, but I don't feel the need to seek one out -- thus I don't place a premium on that and I wouldn't know how much, if anything, to add to the value.

BTW, welcome to the world of Leica. You will find that the M2 is one true classic among the M series. I love mine!

OMG...why would you point me there??? I want them ALL.
In all seriousness, thanks for recommending her store. I will probably just buy something great from her. There are a couple of M4-P and an M5 that look amazing.

Actually they may not have been serviced. Someone here recently bought one from her, and it had issues. She wanted to charge to fix them.

I'm sorry that I forget who it was - hopefully they will chime in.

Good note. The descriptions of some of the cameras denote "overhauled" in them. That certainly accounts for the price difference between two cameras of the same model on the site. All the same, they all look great. Currently waiting to hear back on a couple that caught my eye. Choosing is difficult!

If you're going for the M2, get one with the lever rewind.

I've just done a quick search at eBay and found the price of a black paint M2 could easily be over $10k

Mark that 10k is for an original black paint M2, the OP was talking about a 'repaint' which should go for 1k-2k max.
