Decisive Challenge VII - Weekend of June 30th

It's been a couple years but it's back. Grab your camera and head out into the streets the weekend of June 30th to test your street shooting prowess with a little added time pressure.

To add a little twist, color images will be allowed this year (sorry HCB!).

Here are the details...

What: Decisive Challenge VII - Street Shooting Challenge

When: Images must beshot on 6/30, 7/1 or 7/2

Where: Wherever you are. Big city, small town, wherever!

Rules:

Submitted image must be shot on June 30th, July 1st or 2nd 2017

Submitted image can be in B&W or Color (color being allowed for the 1st time)

Submitted image must not be posted anywhere else as we want to keep images anonymous for voters (no shooter IDs like watermarks allowed)

Submitted image must be sized so the longest side is 1250px

Maximum file size is 500k

Submissions: Images will be submitted on DecisiveChallenge.com via the “entry form” from July 3rd through the 15th

Key dates:

Images must be shot June 30th, July 1st or 2nd 2017

Images can be submitted from July 3rd through July 15th 2017

Voting will commence on Wednesday July 19th and end July 30th (one vote per person please)

Winners will be announced on August 1st 2017

This is the seventh time we’ve put a challenge together and each has been a terrific collection of street shots from around the world. The emphasis with this challenge is on the image, not on the equipment or the reputation of the photographer.

Equipment:

Use whatever equipment you like, from a rangefinder to a DSLR or a cell phone… it doesn’t matter. Film or digital… your choice. Use your creativity and tool of choice to capture an image that will delight the viewers/voters and reflect your inspired vision of the world around you.

This is a fun competition, see if your local photo group wants to take part and make it a day of shooting and stories. Others may choose to go it alone, concentrating on your environment and the search for that “moment”.

Whether you’re a seasoned street shooter or someone who just wants to give it a try, go for it!

Prizes: As usual Prize Donations will be appreciated (contact me if you're interested in donating). I will kick things off by offering a $100 Adorama gift card!

Finally, tell your friends who may be interested in participating!

I'm, like, totally in!

I missed the last one. I think my wife was able to submit something though. This year, I plan to be somewhere interesting over the specified weekend.

Thanks for making the challenge happen!!!

Yes please - I'll have another go. It takes me well out of my usual comfort zone and if you pardon the pun, gives a focus to my photography.

Thanks for organizing this.

I'm not very comfortable with street shooting and I've never taken part in anything like this. I guess it's about time I'm in!

Where are you planning on shooting?

I'll be in San Francisco shooting with a Pentax K-01 most likely. Haven't had that camera out for awhile.

I will be shooting in and around Chandler, Arizona. I suspect I'll have an M4-p with a couple of lenses, as well as a Lytro and a cell phone.

In some areas, two weeks are barely enough to get film back from the lab, let alone near a major US holiday. Some users are not even done after the postman stops by if they have to scan and process. Any leeway in the submission deadline?

Thanks for organizing this Kent. The streets are roasting around here this weekend with temps soaring up to 43C/110F, but I'll still try to shoot a few frames. Good luck and much fun to all.

Sunny weekend in my home town, so I have my M3 loaded with Tri-X. Cliché, I know, but it's a new-ish cliché for me

Well, I'm travelling through both Portland and Seattle over this weekend. Not too much time in either, but my camera is by my side and I'm "snap happy".

Ya never know...

Glad I stumbled on this. I'll try to give it a go too, depending on where I end up. Shooting a Sony A7II + ZM C-Sonnar 50/1.5 (HCB approved?).

Cheers,
Daniel
