Photos of the great Harry Fleenor

On 9/21/2015 I was fortunate to meet the great Harry Fleenor at Oceanside Camera Repair in Manhattan Beach, California. Over the years I've spoken to him from time to time, and sent him my Rolleiflex cameras for repair. He's the real deal. And his repair office didn't disappoint. He's got all the tools -- and straight from Rolleiflex, too. In 1966 he graduated from camera repair school, and moved west from Michigan I think, with his lovely wife and kids -- his wife works with him and logs in cameras, handles paperwork, and a lot more. I felt a little foolish, okay make it a lot foolish when he informed me that the focusing screen on my spare 2.8f was installed (by me) upside down. Doh! While I waited, Harry fine-tuned the focusing on this camera, and checked the speeds and exposure meter, which were spot-on. Here are some photos of the legend. The bottom photo shows Harry checking out my new book, Never Seeing Nothing: which is kind of cool because without his great CLAs, I couldn't have taken the shots.

Thank you for the pictures and it is nice to see a professional who is still in business. I will have to check out your book too.

Dan,

It's great to put a face to the name. The 2.8C that I received from a friend who bought it new, is with Harry now.

I am waiting for the arrival of your book too.

John

More thanks here. He overhauled my 2.8C and the quality of the work and the experience was just worlds better than what I ever saw from marflex back when I used them. He's a legend that, in my experience, lives up to his name and definitely worthy of a portrait.

Great shots. It is nice to be able to put a face to that name. He has my Rolleiflex 2.8F whiteface right now. Can't wait to see the results.

Harry's the best. He did a 2.8D for me years ago, which I foolishly sold. Been trying to buy it back ever since. He makes those Rollei's sing.

Best,
-Tim

Ain't it great?!

And Harry's so cool, he's like Dirty Harry but instead of a Magnum 44 he's got a Rolleiflex -- twice as many shots!

He's done some work for me, too. My son used to live near there, so when I went to visit grandkids, I'd drop in with a problem or to pick one up. Never saw him without his cap!

I think that he has a kind face. He does not look like an "angry" photographer. I like that. I would love to meet him one day. Thanks for the photographs!

That's just how I imagined him. He did some work on my ancient 3.5f some years back and it sure does sing. Great shots. Thanks for sharing.

Dan,

Thank you for posting a photo of Harry Fleenor. A face association is great when you hear so many great things Harry has done for many of the folks here.

I will be testing out my Rollei SL66 first before sending it to Harry for servicing and a checkup.
