Wow as soon as any Leica M film camera is listed on classifieds, it gets sold. Are we having another buying trend kicking in? Or am I just jealous?

Jealous.

It is easy. While M9 is on indefinite sensor swap for significant number of owners, the less expensive M to get and use with M lenses is film M.
Wait for them to realize what Bessa even better deal.

The recent M bodies in RFF classifieds were nice cameras at good prices. Not like the M bodies offered in my local craigslist... Asking prices are between $500 to $2000 over typical RFF market prices. And no, they're not special editions or previously owned by Amelia Earhart. Just typical Ms.

I have to admit, I briefly thought about the M4-2. Then remembered I don't need another M body. If anything, I should be considering lenses.

I had my Bessa R3A briefly. Just didn't like it at all compared to a Leica.
And now new Bessas are $1K!

I didn't dig my as new one at $400!

Indeed. Established seller, illustrated with nice, clear pics. I don't even like Ms but I enjoyed the pics! If I was in the market I would have been all over one of them.

Recently picked up an M4-2 with 35mm summicron (3) and 90mm Tele elmarit off local craigslist. Been wanting Leica kit for a long time and finally found one at a good price. There was a nice M6 ttl going for $1200. after price drops that was on the list for a very long time. I would have gone for it except it would take me too long to find reasonably priced lenses to go with it.

I'm not a guy with new Leica cameras, plus two dozens of other film cameras.
I can't even afford third CLA for M4-2 in short time, nor I want to keep at least 300 CAD just in case for M3 CLA. Sold M3 and for same money was lucky to get new R2M.
To me new Bessa at close to $1K CAD was better chance to have camera I could use just as M4-2 and not to be afraid to burn the shutter. Or face third CLA.
I have it in my camera bag for weeks now and I can't tell what I feel some difference in use, results. Here is nothing to dig, but it has grown on me as the tool.

Well, $1000 Canadian equals $750 American for the 2RM - not bad and that was for a virtually new camera as I recall. It's great to have a reliable camera that is always ready to go. However, soon enough you'll be wanting to get your M4-2 back in service. Another $350 up in smoke!

I've been keeping an eye on Leica M prices and they seem to be to have been going up and up, but what bothers me about taking the plunge is not so much the initial price but the prospect of repair bills that seem to be the price of admission.

Well, M4-2 is working as it is now after second CLA. It just less in use. I'm not into and on the streets as much as it was possible before. R2M is good for frame, measure and take, slow and steady photography I do for now. I even took out SLR which I didn't used for years.

I too was very tempted by the last M4 to get as my first Leica but I really prefer for my bodies to have a meter. I'm looking for an M5 or M6

Sales often pick up about now; people have paid off the Christmass bills and spring is just around the corner and so on and so forth...
