before i announce the winner...i want to apologize for making you all wait and extra day for the decision...this has been one of the hardest things that i have ever been involved in!
i have looked at many competition winners in my life and wondered how on earth the judges ever picked 'THAT' as better then the one i liked so much more...well, i have to say that i don't think that i will ever voice that particular criticism again. this is tough to do!! there are so many really good entries and for so many different reasons...we had various first picks from the panel but in the end a decision had to be made...and it was...

kutitta: chinatown...is that choice and the winner of rff's first challenge!!

congratulations!

Oh my God, this is so overwhelming! A big thank you to all panel members! I'm relatively new to both photography and RFF, and winning the first challenge here means so much to me. There is so much to learn, and I will for sure ask many questions and get insightful answers from RFF members, but thank you so much for the decision, I'm very much encouraged with this prize!

Congratulations kutitta, and to all who participated. All who entered their photos are winners in effect as they accepted the challenge and completed it. I saw a lot of fine work from those efforts.

Many thanks to Gil, Greg, Robert, Richard, Petronious, Eirik and Antti for your warm messages, much appreciated.

I was just checking the cameraquest website to decide what to get with the discount prize. Apart from having already ordered a Sony NEX 5N plus the fast-approaching Xmas present frenzy, we will celebrate our anniversary on the 10th, and my wife's birthday on the 11th next week, so money too tight to mention!

But we are also taking my father-in-law coming from overseas to New Zealand after Xmas, and I had this idea (or dream) of getting a wide lens before going there to use with my Leica CL (plus NEX 5N). My widest lens is currently Summicron-C 40/2 (except for Zuiko 28/3.5 which I will use with the upcoming NEX with adapter and of course crop factor!) So it seems that I am oscillating between Color Skopar 21/4 and 25/4.

I am sure it has been discussed elsewhere on RFF, and I will definitely check that out and read the past threads, but I appreciate if you can share your thoughts and experiences with these two lenses. I think I will not be able to afford the viewfinder at this stage, and will rely on CL's enter finder area plus a bit of my imagination, so Skopar 25/4 might be a better option in terms of framing, but I kinda think that going wider with 21/4 might be a much better option in New Zealand.

So what do you reckon?

When I was in NZ I relied on m43 40/1.7 and 28/2.5 (and one 80-300 zoom), and I don't think I missed anything in the wide landscapes and shorescapes by not having 25 or 21. The extra stops, though, were valuable in the winter light and mist. I think I'd do the same with a CL--40 + a 28 faster than than f4. (Though I'd probably pack my Bronica RF with the 65 + 45 rather than a Leica or OM for film if I went back to NZ...)
