Let's see someone burning one ... that would get my attention.

Surely somebody has a pic from a protest rally or similar where the term 'backlit' can have real meaning! :D

We don't do a lot of flag waving in this country and to be truthful the Aussie flag really isn't all that spectacular ... maybe that's why?

Sorry ... no offence meant Todd.

It's always interested me that the Australian flag seems to have very little significance in our down under culture. The US flag seems to have a lot of history attached to to it and US citizens treat it accordingly.

There's been several attempts over the years for Australia to have a new flag but we seem as reluctant to do that as we are to dismiss the Queen as our head of state and become completely independant.

We are convict stock after all ... don't forget! :D

Coming from a Commonwealth country that did adopt a new flag in 1965 I would say the process was so so interesting. We did keep the Queen in the loop though. Not much flag waving here either.

Talk of that here too - but really, we are all too obedient to our beloved Queen for anything serious to come out of it. I don't know what we would put on a new flag design anyway though, short of a sheep or flightless bird of some kind. At least you guys have some interesting animals to put on :)

IMO the most beautiful and photogenic flag in the world is the Tibetan flag. The Argentina and Brazilian flags are pretty nice as well. The french tri color is probably the most famous and the one with a lot of history attached to it, and union jack is the most recognizable followed by American flag, although Americans put Canadian flag in their backpacks when traveling abroad. ;)

Quite a scene this was in New York Harbor. July or August, probably 1985. A celebration for the 100th anniversary of the statue of Liberty and its unveiling after a major restoration.

Damn skippy I fly her! Raised my right hand for my oath of enlistments for that old girl numerous times for 25 years. Still raise my right hand in salute even though I'm now retired. I fly this one because it's the first Stars & Stripes my family served under. Prior to that - they served under a Union Jack.

My flag has taken a lot of heat from the insane PC Police these past years, but they know where they can put this flag. I'm a Southerner, a rebel, and damn proud of it. The wife is Black by the way and feels the same. Oh, and Roll Tide!
