View Full Version : Photography's Holy Grail?

Well, I've posted about how much I've fallen for the RC. But it seems as though the RC has captured a new and famous (or infamous?) fan...

Olympus 35RC.
I finally reached perfection: I just got 40 perfect shots on one 36-exposure roll.
How did I do it? With an Olympus 35RC, worth about $10.
Perfect exposure, perfect focus, and scary sharp. Review coming.

oh boy... now all the haters will come out swinging! :)

$10 is kind of a deal on those too...

04-15-2009, 22:12
I was going to say that too. I got mine [in excellent condition w/ battery] for $50.

Are you and the RC going to get married now that you've fallen for it?

I have an Olympus Trip 35 which takes some nice photos

Great, Ken's going to go on and on about RealRaw again...

FFS, it's a small Olympus rangefinder with a Zuiko lens. OF COURSE it will take nice photos if you put decent film through it.

I'd also like to know where he finds all his toys for like half the price I can find them. $10? Great deal!

No doubt that the RC is (like many others) a great camera (btw I got mine for 5,-Euro); questionable is what Mr. Rockwell considers as a perfect shot: "Perfect exposure, perfect focus, and scary sharp." Thankworthy these are not the only criteria for a great photo.

40? Huhm I'd like to know how, I can only squeeze out as many as 38

I'm on first roll with RC, given to me because automatics don't work. So far I'm pleased with release (sort of criteria for me), though I'm using it with soft release.

I like if lens delivers sharpness, though agree to petronius - and especially when talking about not so current gear.

In fact, I like how K.R. moves his interest from current digitals to good old film gear. Too many gearheads I know are deadly stuck in rumours about upcoming dslrs and AF zooms.

I liked it when I saw it first for about 50 USD (later i got one for 15$)....I am just a bit afraid that they wil rise as steeply as the 35 RD or the Canon QL 17 III....(Thanks to "Pecker")

Can you explain this (item 270373209492) to me? It is not BIN offer, it is auction with placed bids.
I realize it's nice camera, but....what's going on?

04-19-2009, 10:23
That's crazy. I hope things calm down so I can buy another one at a reasonable price. However, even if the new price for the camera were to be $100, the camera would still be worth its weight in gold.

As for Mr Rockwell, I enjoy looking at his site sometimes, but personally I never found any of his work particularly outstanding. But then again most of the shots I take professionally aren't that noteworthy either.

But for me I'm completely bored with digital photography. Film excites me a whole lot more, and I'm loving the results I'm getting thus far.

"When Barnack created the Leica, he just happened to have a 50mm lens lying around and kludged that into his first camera."

Ken make me giggle:D

yeah, that's what I like about him :) too many people are too serious about sensors and MTF's.

I knew the prices were going to rise due to Ken's article, but c'mon !

Considering I got mine about a couple of years ago for 7.50, and in just the same condition (except the light seals which I replaced myself).

04-25-2009, 03:33
Considering that I got the last one, in perfect condition, off ebay for 10€+shipping late last year, that seems totally out of proportion...

Wish I had not dropped mine and broke the cr*p out of it. I used to use it a lot.

04-25-2009, 07:33
I'm happy I have two of these RC-beauties!

He probably loads and unloads in the dark.

Woah, that's crazy!

Wait... did you hear that? It think it's the sound of the person who sold me my RC screaming WHY DIDN'T I WAIT JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS TO SELL IT?
