from the man himself...

Today a new new limited production Voigtlander Bessa arrived, mounting a
limited production new lens. They will be sold as a set. Total world
wide production 650. Cosmetically it's a very nice looking camera, an
improvement on the original. The lens is special too. I predict it to
be prized by both shooters and collectors alike.

The page announcing it will be up next week, deliveries will likely
start towards the end of April.

1st person to guess both the body and the lens correctly gets a free
body cap !
OK, so I am cheap. I admit it. all right, TWO body caps !

I am thinking it's a duded up version of R2A or R3A.......

my guess is an r with 40 mm fl along with the new 40 in screw mount.

02-18-2005, 19:55
I want it to be a R with the 50/3.5 Heliar or a R3C with the S 50/1.5 as a _C_ mount... :D

Not terribly likely I know but hey, if I'm going to indulge in techno-porn fantasy... LOL

02-18-2005, 20:08
i think it'll be an r with upgraded build quality and a 50/2.

02-18-2005, 20:39
How about a special edition of the R2? They have done it with the Bessa L, R and T maybe they want a special edition of R2 and a new lens that goes with it.

02-18-2005, 21:03
A nice coloured R with either a 50 or an M mount 40 would be nice :) But I was thinking it might be an R2 in some sorta funky colour.

02-18-2005, 21:45
Could it be a Voigtlander-branded Zeiss-Ikon by Cosina? :D

Jeez that takes me back to the confusion of the Buick-Opel by Isuzu!

02-18-2005, 22:25
Considering how close we are to the original release of the new R3a/R2a, I would doubt they've undertaken anything too dramatic for a 650-unit production run.

My guess is some sort of commemorative version of the R3a and the Nokton 40. Maybe a different color, maybe a few zippy logos, but all in all, nothing earth shaking.

Nothing new and exciting, Cosina is cheap. It will be an R2 with a 35mm lens, the Pancake perhaps. It will be the "Leica is Dead Commemorative" with the exclaimation, "Nah Nah we Win!" engraved on the top.

02-19-2005, 02:58
Hmm, the Nikon/Contax mount R3 with matching 40/1.4 ?

It's a very good thing that I read that comment one half-second after swallowing a sip of coffee... or the monitor & keyboard wouldn't look too pretty right now....

But I think, for THAT occasion they may not go the cheap route....

How about a gold-plated camera with inscription-
"Voigtlander, Since 1756; Leica, R.I.P. 2005"

Bessa R with metal top plate and the Heliar lens.

02-19-2005, 06:21
How about a Nikon S look-alike with a 40mm?

02-19-2005, 06:28
What ever it is, with only 650 made.. it might be rather good and worth it. But sounds expensive to me. I dont have the money anyway..

02-19-2005, 10:47
it's an r2s with collapsible heliar? blah!

02-19-2005, 10:54
It's an R3A with an M-mount "Universal Adapter" (LSM/Contax/Nikon)

I can dream, can't I?

02-19-2005, 10:58
no, this just in. stephen confirmed it's an r2s with a rigid mount heliar. bummer.

02-19-2005, 11:00

Ah, well. Still waitin' for that Contax/LSM-M adapter. I'd sure buy an M mount camera of SOME flavor, if that were to happen.

02-19-2005, 11:04
It was rumored a while ago that they Heliar would be back in rigid barrel with an s mount.

$1,000 I bet like the 101 T.

02-19-2005, 12:08
I already have some lens mounts in transit JD :) Hoping also that the adapter will come true, the Canon P and the Zeiss Opton 1.5 are already becoming good friends even with the obvious language restrictions... :D

02-19-2005, 12:48
I thought it'd be a titanium body with the super fast 40mm lens in grey.

Rover... how is it you only break news in your signature? What's cooking? Where did you get it from? When is it arriving? Are your palms sweaty?

C'mon! Spill da beans!!

You know I mean well... ;)

02-19-2005, 13:07
Yes, Stephen Gandy stated, "R2S with black paint front plate, 50/3.5 internal mount rigid Heliar".

02-19-2005, 13:09
Oh, I called Tamarkin Friday and it is on the way. Monday or Tuesday I should get my Collapsable Summicron, M6 TTL, 2 books from Camerabooks.com, the Nikon Rangefinder book I won on Ebay and hopefully the transfer from paypal into my bank account.

M6TTL, chrome, .72, Mint - with 100% satisfaction garauntee and 90 day warrenty. They are the big guys in NY, but said a few times, "We want you to have the right camera so you have a warrenty and no ? return policy." It is a nice piece of mind, and they were good to deal with.

02-19-2005, 13:12
I was going to surprise you with a Cam and Java shot.

02-19-2005, 13:38
Congratulations rover!! I have dealt with Tamarkin - excellent people - I returned a lens within the trial period and my charge card was credited very quickly. :)

02-19-2005, 14:16
What'd ya get Rover?

And that internal mount Heliar is INTERESTING, even if in the "wrong side" of the Contax mount.

Still want that C-M adapter, though...

02-19-2005, 14:20
Rover, congrats. We will still enjoy seeing your "C&C" shot. I am soooo glad for ya. My wish before I die is to have a Leica a-la-carte.....Something to live for....unless, Leica doesn't go under, of course.

02-20-2005, 14:45
got a look at the r2s and heliar. the black paint frontplate and rigid heliar are actually pretty neat. it would be at home on a sci-fi flick! the barrel of the heliar is a black cone, contrasting with the chrome mount and aperture ring. exquisitely crafted, smooth as silk. *slobber*pant*gasp* ok, enough of that.

02-20-2005, 15:45
Congratulations, Rover! That camera of yours... might it be related to my own silver chrome? They may be cousins, you know?

Good to hear good news again! :)
