Has anyone tried this, with a voigtlander 50mm finder, etc?

I love the lens and it's look, but not cutting off heads is an issue. On a Kiev/Contax, I found I can't really do it right at close ranges with that camera as well.

There is a need for an external viewfinder with these cameras in my opinion, but the shoe might be in the wrong spot.

Even on an M a VIOOH finder seems to be an asset if the focus point/composition are different.

Interesting Idea. I'll shoot a roll with my Retina IIa tomorrow with the 50mm Voightlander viewfinder and see what happens. I'll let you know as soon as I develop the shots.

The Retina Accessory finder as I have recently found out is off set to make up for the off set flash shoe. Just a little parallax to contend with.

Is the shoe placement for the IIc finder about the same as the IIa?

Yes, I've used a Leitz SBOOI on Retinas:
