View Full Version : Any 2007 PAW Participants?

As a New Year's resolution I'm going to keep a Picture-A-Week (PAW) blog.

Anyone else interested?

It would be great for RFF members to keep a PAW list area so participants can see what others are doing? I'm willing to keep a "sidebar" on my PAW if others are interested in being listed - just send me your URL and I'll add it when I figure out my blogging software. A virtual ring of PAW sites could link us together if others do the same.

I'm sure there will be some deviation but I'm hoping to keep most of my posts to using the M6 with a Summitar and one film (probably Aritsa EDU Ultra 400 or Delta 400).

Here is my site - only a test image exists so far: http://www.sixview.com/paw/

My goal is Sunday to Saturday images - develop Sunday morning early and post by Monday sometime.

Free hosting can be had at www.fotoweek.com (http://www.fotoweek.com) for those without their own blog site.

Happy image making in 2007!

As with any challenge, is there a restriction to film r/f cameras only. I shoot all sorts and couldn't count on film r/f only. If any camera is acceptable, count me in.

I just set up a page on my website for a PAW 07, I'm in. I did one for 04 and 05 but skipped it this past year so thanks for the incentive to get going again.

Richard (and all who are interested) - I feel the Picture-A-Week challenge is more about making images than what camera and media are used.

Although my personal challenge is to use my silver M6 and Summitar 5cm with B&W film most often - I'm pretty sure there will be some digital SLR and 8x10 view camera images posted to my PAW.

Keep sending the URLs - great stuff so far. I think I've figured out how to add a sidebar to my blogging software and will post a "master PAW list" link in my signature soon.

I'll hopefully be re-starting mine - I'll begin posting next week Sunday January 7, 2007.

And I concur with Gregg; it's about the images - not about which camera was used to take them.

My current PAW (which is OLD) is http://x.chang-sang.com/PAW/

Cheers,
Dave

I'm going to go for it. I once joined the PAD (Picture a Day) group on pbase, but even with a digicam, that got too hard to maintain. My PAD will be here:

I'll join the fray here. My New Years Resolution, photo-wide, is to do some photo work every day. Today's task was editing and posting the picture for my girlfriend's cooking blog, for which I have done all the photography. If anyone is interested, that URL is www.kaybrayscooking.blogspot.com

My PAW will be at my (so far pretty lame) www.fatelvispictures.blogspot.com.

Thanks for the incentive, and good luck to all.

Ditto! I have over 30 sheets of negs going back over a year I have yet to scan or print. And 19 films are being dropped off at Metro this evening for processing. I need time off work to get on top of this!

I want to try a PAW this year, but will have to start in February. I'm off to Kiev at the weekend for a last assignment of three weeks work as before I leave to concentrate on other things for a little while. I will need some weekly discipline after 10 years of clocking in and out :-)

Me neither, Joe. Besides, I don't have any clue how to make a PAW. How do you make it? is there a software to make the 52 windows? Sorry, but I'm not very familiar with that :o

Hiya ManGo,
Thanks for the tip. I'll try that, if I have the heart(and the time) to start a PAW.(my RFF and PBase galleries are enough for the moment).
But it might be interesting to do a PAW, one pic/week (that's the concept:) ) , its story, its comment. It could be a long-term project (52 pictures of ...), instead of a mere collection of unrelated pictures. Have to think about it.
Bonne journée :)

Mine was daily for the first couple of months, but will shortly be turning weekly, life keeps intervening at the moment and getting in the way of picture taking.

It's here (http://ian-land.blogspot.com/).

I set this up on flikr, it seems like a lot use that site. I hope this link works. I have another site but it is for another purpose. The flikr site will be for my attempts at PAW.

OK - I have entered everyone who has replied or PM'd into my PAW link list at http://www.sixview.com/paw/. Please PM me if you would like your name to read differently.

DCSANG: the link to your paw is dead - "404 page not found" error.

For those wondering about setting up Serendipity, it came with my hosting plan at GoDaddy. If you have PHP and a MySQL database with your hosting (and know how to log into it) you should be set to follow the standard install instructions. Beyond that it will be system by system - maybe the site admin can help you out.

Paul Shelasky (http://www.paulshelaskyphotography.com/Pages/PhotosOfWeek/PrevGallery07.html) (pesphoto) has what looks like a template for sharing 52 photos. Paul, would you be willing to post a link to your template and/or allow people to download it for use on their sites?

Thanks all - keep PMing me with your links and I'll add them.

I'll help any way I can. Here is where I got the template, a download is already set up for anyone who wants it. This is where I got mine from.

Here is my 05 PAW to show you.

Thanks for the template link Paul. That looks like a great (low programming) way to post a PAW.

As other have found, another alternative is to use standard blogging software. Just make one entry for each week. Your pictures will be listed first to last by default.

Yup, just the way I like it. Especially since my programming skills are at best simple trial and error. I use Dreamweaver to make my site.

OK, I am also going to give this a try. I have set it up on my flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/rgphotos/sets/72157594265695143/), and will upload every Sunday or Monday.

For those members like Gene who will do the same on Flickr, I have created a group "RFF PAW (http://flickr.com/groups/[email protected]/)." This should make it easier for us to be notified of each other's new uploads.

To help you discipline yourselves, an upload limit of 1 per week has been set, to avoid multiple uploads to "catch up" on your PAW. ;) If this works out to be too stringent in the future, let me know.

Gregg, pls feel free to link the flickr RFF PAW (http://flickr.com/groups/[email protected]/) group to your website.

I agree with gregg that it is more about the images. Frankly, I would probably be using digital at least some of the time. I know others may feel differently, that is why I opted to use my flickr gallery.

Ray, thanks for the invite to your Flickr group. I'm considering it. If I do this I'll probably set mine up the way Gene is doing his, on Flickr, and using a set. I'll add to your group that way.

Honestly, though, I never quite understood the value of a PAW or a PAD. I'd like to hear from those of you that have kept PAWs and/or PADs. Rather than hijack Gregg's thread, I started a thread here for discussion (http://rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=454093#post454093).

Hey Mike, Brunei is not England and certainly not America. It's one of the smallest countries of the world, located on the northern coast of Borneo (2 hours flight from Singapore).

I think everyone who wanted to be listed is updated on my PAW site (http://sixview.com/paw/). Send me a PM if you want anything changed.

I've also joined the Flickr group - really wish it were possible to link in external sites as I'm a "free" Flickr user and have used my three galleries mostly for sharing snapshots with people who want to order prints. I guess the (free) option is to delete a gallery and use one specifically for PAW...

Any Flickr gurus care to weigh in on this?

Well, I joined and uploaded my first photo this morning. I will post things shot new and for the first week or so at least not yet shared elsewhere. I have three rolls of new 120 stuff to have developed and already have stolen one of Gene's shots/ideas for a couple snaps I made on New Years Day.

Not a guru but what i did was just free up one set rather than deleting anything. I went to "organize" photos, opened the set to free up, and dragged the photos out, then renamed the set (there has to be at least one photo in a set). Basically, you can have photos without necessarily having them in a set (like the albums on the RFF gallery).

If the upload limit becomes a problem, just let us know, Roland.

BTW, since the flickr group is RFF-based, I have taken the liberty of adding Jorge and the RFF mods as group administrators. Also RayPA since he probably has the most experience there and haunts flickr the most. ;)
