I know... I just rarely have coffee around when taking pictures of my cameras! Hey James, Not sure if pics of non-rangefinders would be appreciated... You could try & see if any feathers are ruffled?

Here's another... Next time I have to remmeber to get the smudges/dust off the viewfinder windows! This one is my Electro GT that had a going over by G'man...

Peter, thanks. Hopefully nobody will get offended. I did take a quick picture just now of my one and only RF body. My pride and joy (because of the shape it is in and the fact that I was able to pick it up with the original manual and a box of pristine lenses and accessories), an old Argus C-44...

I do have two other RF's on the way now though. As much as I love my SLR's and DSLR's, there's just something about shooting with a RF that is pure fun.

Here's a recent buy, a Summciron 50 f/2, and an interesting 90mm lens allegedly made in East Germany. Love the Summicron's hood. The 90mm lens was a surprise, only cost me $150.00; when I compared it to my Leica 35mm f2, it wasn't that far behind in sharpness and color quality/contrast.

Cheers,

mine has the Tessar 2.8/50 lens - it is pin sharp and nicely contrasty - I was suprised how good it was. It's fun to use too. The gauge you can see is part of the built in meter, which is still working and accurate (!)

Not sure if you meant me or not Paul... If you did, thanks! I appreciate the compliment.

The lighting I used was all natural... I layed some black velvet over a step stool on the balcony & snapped away with my Rollei dt4000 on a tripod. Getting the exposure right so the chrome wasn't all blown out was a little difficult, but it seemed to work well for the most part.

Cheers!

Boy, you certainly have an eclectic collection there. I was going to ask what the rig on the 124G was, until the next posting answered it. (I have a 'non-G' 124, and never saw that on it!!)

I see you have some 'FSU' cameras there, too. But a collapsible lens on an M-6??? Now that's really connecting the old and the new. Might try it sometime on my M4-2.

You do need a copy of my old Welta Weltini. It's of about 1938 or so vintage and closely resembles the Retinas. It's solid as a brick and takes quite decent pictures, except the frame counter doesn't work anymore. So I just go until the film stops. It has an f/2 Schneider-Xenon lens, so you know it's no slouch.

Chris...be wary of the source of information about your newly acquired Schact-Ulm Travenar 90 in LTM. Schacht was a producer of splendid lenses for Leica (and Contax, too, I believe) bodies. It was an old-line German optics company located in Ulm, Germany. Ulm is a pleasant middle-sized city known for its cathedral having the tallest steeple in the country. Your lens is a decidedly West German product.

Thanks guys. The first one was taken with the R9, the 100mm APO macro and Delta 100. The second two were taken on a hasselblad with the 80/2.8 on Acros. I did not scan the second two though -- they were photographed on the lightbox with the R9, DMR and the 100mm APO, so in a way, they all went through the 100mm apo...

Try something fun - put the OKARO on the rangefinder window instead of the viewfinder window. What happens is tha the viewfinder stays the same but suddenly you magically have just the rangefinder patch appear orange and contrasty. Works great!

Kevin:

How do you like your M6 with the finder upgrade and pared down framelines? I'm planning on sending my M6 to DAG sometime this winter and have been toying with the idea of ditching the 75 and 135 lines -- I'll probably keep the 28. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Matt

kevin m
11-17-2006, 17:42
Matt, the flare-free finder upgrade is well worth the cost. It makes the TTL finder as flare-free as my Hexar RF finder, while still retaining the 'crisper' look of the Leica finder optics.

I really like the clean finder, myself, but I don't use a 75. The framelines still aren't as accurate as are those of the M2, M3 and M4 of course, but it's a big improvement nonetheless.

Believe it or not, the M3 style wind lever is a bigger deal than I thought it would be. The camera feels much more like an M2 or M3 in the hand. I never liked the 'wiggly' lever of the later cameras.

Keith,

That is one gorgeous camera!
It's also a nearly perfect "PR0N" shot. Next time, ditch the lens cap as a lens support. Try something we won't see in the final photo (like the tip from an pencil eraser or something innocuous that can be hidden under the lens). Otherwise, brilliant!

I must admit Frank that the IIa blows me away. I didn't realise how much smaller it was going to be than my Kiev II and the beautiful rounded ends that everyone goes on about on Screwmount Leicas is more than matched, in my opinion, by the balanced asthetics of the Contax.

As for it being THE best looking rangefinder ... I tend to agree with you! :)

Sir Mix-a-lot had it so right. I changed some words. Very few, though.

*talking*
Oh my god
Becky, look at that lens
Its so big
It looks like one of those Bronica guys' lenses
Who understands those Bronica guys
They only use it because it has beautiful bokeh
I mean that LENS!
It's just so big
I can't believe it's so round
It's just out there
I mean, it's gross
Look, it's just so black.

*rap*
I like big glass and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a camera shows up with nice big negs
And a round thing in your face
You get GAS
Wanna pull up tough
Cuz you notice that lens was stuffed
Deep in the bag your carrying
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh, baby I wanna get with it
And take it's picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But that glass you got
makes me so GASsy
Ooh, lens of metal skin
You say you wanna get in my bag
Well can ya? cuz you aint that average camera

I've seen them dancin'
To hell with romancin'
She's heavy, smooth, got it goin like a crystal canon

I'm tired of magazines
Saying small lens is the thing
Take the average Bronica man and ask him that
It gotta pack much glass

So Fellas (yeah) Fellas(yeah)
Has your camera got the lens (hell yeah)
Well twist it, twist it, twist it, twist it, twist that focus ring
camera got GLASS!

I like'em round and big
And when I'm throwin a gig
I just can't help myself
I'm actin like an animal
Now here's my scandal

I wanna get you home
And UH, double up UH UH
I aint talkin bout digital
Cuz plastic parts were made for toys
I wannem real metal and heavy
So find that nasty glass
Who cares it aint that fast,
Beggin for a piece of that bokeh

....and it goes on and on and on...

Nice image, physiognomy. I really like the curl of smoke. Adds a touch of drama to the scene. Plus, I like the simple Budweiser can rather than something fancier. Plays well off the Kiev camera, even though a Kiev was hardly a proletariat camera, since it's now such a wonderfully low cost way to get into a complete rangefinder kit. Well done!

more porno. Since SLRs are fair game...

I sold this thing shortly after returning from Turkey - not because I didn't love it, because I did, but because I love the Bronica more and one or the other had to go.

The D200 is a great machine. Buy it if you are going to buy any DSLR right now. It is just wonderful.

... M3 with 50mm Elmar and M2 with 35mm Canon.

Really cool shots there Keith... You've stepped up the standard for camera glamour shots! Nothing against the IIa, but my favourite is the M shot. Are those split peas/lentils you have them sitting on?

Alright, let's do it!
This is my Z4 that unfortunately must go back to the north due to a defective spool.
I really like the look and feel of the Zorki 4s, so maybe next time I'll get a keeper. For now, its fashion shots would have to do.
