Hi,

I purchased a Kodak Retina IIc with Xenon 50/2.8. There are some spots and dirt visible in the rear lens group. I think most spots are on the glass face, which points to the shutter blades.

I am not sure, if it is just dirt, fungus, or as i read in another thread here maybe a reaction of the Xenon glass with some kind of solvents. Nevertheless I want to dry to clean it.
I took the front group away, but unfortunately even with the aperture wide open, it is too closed to clean the glass surface properly.

So i want to remove the whole rear group.
Am i correct with the assumption, that i have to turn the element- as shown on the picture- anti-clockwise?
Is there the danger, that i deadjust something by doing so?

Also grateful for any other hints and tips.

Thanks for reading.

Just use a tool so you can use the slots in the lens ring and unscrew the lens group. And then screw it back in when you're done.

You'll need a spanner that will fit the slots then turn counterclockwise to unscrew.

Thanks, J. Patric and Colyn.

I have begun to unscrew it now. About 1,5 turns it was to screw very easy after the first loosening. But then it suddenly stopped. So I'm wondering... is it just a bit stiff there, and should i apply some more force to continue screwing? Or is there some kind of interlock or so?
I'm afraid to use too much force and breaking something...

Edit: i just used more force, and it worked out fine :)

By the way Chris Sherlock has a great Retina site with repair info, e.g. this page illustrates the rear lens group removal of a Ia or IIa which is similar to yours: http://retinarescue.com/retinafocusmechanism.html

thanks for the link to chris sherlock's page. i knew his wonderful page already but strangely enough i have overseen this particular site about the rear element.

so how does it come out?

it just has to be unscrewed anti-clockwise.
