View Full Version : Decisive Challenge IV Summer 2013 Outtakes. Post Yours!

If you were like me it was a tough call as to which image to submit for the Challenge. As promised here is the thread where we can share the ones that we didn't choose.

May I suggest you post first the picture you DID submit, followed by however many you like of the Outtakes. Forum members can comment and let you know if they think you made the right choice.

This should be fun!

This was my submission :
It came out in "the top 20" ....
Obviously it either was liked a lot or didn't spark any interest at all, kind of polarizing.
Well, hopefully better luck next time.

Jamie- I like the feel of "urban woman". Wish that the car wasn't the same color density as her outfit so she'd pop even more.

Nicely done!

could hardly call them outtakes. only took about a dozen photos that weekend and maybe 5 can be associated with street...
i submitted my first choice, the right decision i guess:
the cage:
http://www.rangefinderforum.com/rffgallery/gallery/51546/med_U51546I1375277851.SEQ.3.jpg (http://http://www.rangefinderforum.com/rffgallery/gallery/51546/med_U51546I1375277851.SEQ.3.jpg)

and some photos that 'didn't make it':
http://www.rangefinderforum.com/rffgallery/gallery/51546/med_U51546I1375277850.SEQ.2.jpg (http://http://www.rangefinderforum.com/rffgallery/gallery/51546/med_U51546I1375277850.SEQ.2.jpg)

was a lot of fun anyway. thanks

Jane7l, were those photos taken in Piran by any chance? I was there a few weeks ago and I swear I saw those same guys sitting on what looks like the same corner; I might even have a photo somewhere.

yes, all four photos are from piran. first one is from the st. georges's church and other three are from tartini square. i am from slovenia, had a heavy work assignment and just jumped to find an atm and took this photos on the way... i also see you've been visiting ljubljana lately :)

Yes, I was on the coast for a couple days before heading to Ljubjana for the rest of the week (I have a lot of family in Slovenia), then I went south to catch a boat out of Dubrovnik for a week along the Dalmatian coast. I've only just finished scanning the 15 rolls I shot.... :)

Anyway, back on topic, here's my entry:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y121/aegaspari/3Jul2013-2-04_Large_Modified_Crop_zps3a3c34c9.jpg

And here's a couple of choices that didn't make the cut, in order of perceived strength from worst to best:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y121/aegaspari/3Jul2013-2-03_Large_Modified_Crop_zpsbce8e645.jpg

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y121/aegaspari/3Jul2013-2-24_Large_Modified_Crop_zpsaff6c45d.jpg

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y121/aegaspari/3Jul2013-2-17_Large_zpse1428e2a.jpg

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y121/aegaspari/3Jul2013-2-16_Large_Modified_Crop_zpsc157abd0.jpg

I was annoyed with myself that the two shots I thought had the best "decisive moment" feel about them required significant cropping, and thus reduced the clarity of the images somewhat.

Since I was using a new lens (M-Nokton), the day after the challenge, I posted my out-takes here: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134329.

Next to the submission, here are probably my two favorites from that day:

Hi Everyone,

I am posting this for my wife,Gail (Gail T.). I hope you enjoy reading her thoughts on her winning picture and a few outtakes.

Gail writes:

This Decisive Challenge was a real challenge. This is because Warren and I were coming home on a Transatlantic Cruise from Europe. In fact, we were joking with each other that maybe Kent will do a Decisive Challenge during the week that we were in Paris!

I am a light sleeper and usually up early in the morning when few people were about. On the morning of the Decisive Challenge, I spotted a Mennonite woman writing and I caught her yawning. This picture is special because a few days later I ran into her again and we chatted for a long time. I got to know the subject!

http://www.fototime.com/C5D6D20B1D0D0D8/large.jpg

The man in the library was taken... in the library! This is a good color picture with all the books and magazines. I wish the chair in the middle was out of the way. It was 8 am and the only people in the library was this man and me. It was quiet and peaceful. This man was very focused on his magazine and I was focused on taking his picture. Somehow, as I was taking his picture, I felt very connected to him.

http://www.fototime.com/64BE7B4074DCE29/large.jpg

Let Her Run …. By 10 am most people finished their breakfast and were “doing their thing”. The couple in the picture finished eating and weren't going to do anything. They rather “Let Her Run”. And no, I did not go into these people's room. (Some of my friends saw this picture and thought that I went into their room. LOL! This was the lounge area!) By the way, Warren did not participate this time because he was sitting around like the people in the picture.

http://www.fototime.com/9BEBA9C84789C86/large.jpg

The runner …. By noon everybody was out and doing all different activities. But this picture makes it look like the runner was the only person around. I was going to submit this picture because it was my favorite. Being at the scheme, I knew that a moment before I took the picture and a moment later, there were lots of people around. But at the moment I captured the shot, the runner was all alone.

http://www.fototime.com/6BEA8F4FC5833B8/large.jpg

I only take pictures when I am traveling or when Kent organizes a Decisive Challenge. My satisfaction for taking pictures comes from getting a connection with the subject/s as if I can feel what they are feeling or think what they are thinking when I take the picture. It's a bit creepy?

Anyway, I want to thank Kent for his hard work on all the Decisive Challenges and I want to thank those who donated prizes. Most of all, I want to thank Warren for always encouraging me to take pictures! As always in all that we do together, we challenge each other!
