OK, dust off all those P&S cameras and tape up the light seals! It's time to play with those cameras that we once thought were so cool. Let's use these slightly limited tools to make interesting images that we can all marvel at and enjoy. Shoot whatever subject you like, just get some cool P&S results to share.

This is a little bit of a "Flash Challenge" (like a flash mob but minus the dancing and occasional nudity) as I just popped the idea up today for feedback.

The shooting portion of the project/challenge begins NOW. Entries can be submitted until midnight on March 15th Pacific (California) time.

Rules: Next to None.
1- P&S cameras please. You know what I mean. A M9 on "S" is not a P&S. Neither is a D800 on "P". Honor system please.
2- Any subject, anywhere. Must be shot between now and March 15th.
3- Get the most out of that little forgotten camera. Make it interesting.
4. You can submit up to 3 images

How to submit: Enter any time before March 16th, starting now.
1- Go to http://www.jotformpro.com/kdemas/PointedAndShotChallenge (http://www.jotformpro.com/kdemas/PointedAndShotChallenge)
2- Enter at least one and up to 3 images.
3- Make sure images are no larger than 1000px on the longest side and 300K in size.

Prizes:
Who knows, we might get some donations...or not. Either way the process should be fun!

That's it!

I have until March 15 in case I got crap out of this one. By that time, I will probably have 10 rolls from 10 different cameras to choose from. But I had a couple of rolls of expired 100ASA Imation (Ferrania) on hand that has an interesing color pallete, thatI thought would be a good match for this camera with our bright winter sun. And it was about time I put a roll or two through this old Konica.

Hi Tom. The G1X is a modern state of the art digital camera so no, I don't consider it appropriate for this project. I had old "outdated" film P&S camera in mind originally but certainly very old digital P&S cameras could apply as well. I have an old Minolta X1 which I think would fit the bill for instance.

The spirit of the challenge is to use a camera that is quite "limited" by today's standards. If you stick to that ethos in your choice of cameras you'll be just fine.

Thanks for asking.

Jim

I'm glad you got some in Jim!! I have some images from my Lrica C11 APS cam and I just developed a roll from my Nikon L35AF. We'll see if there's anything decent :)

I borrowed my sister's Leica mini and ran two rolls of Tri-X through it. It was so much fun I bought an Olympus XA2 and a Fuji DL-500.

Three pics from the Leica submitted.

...while i must say i didnīt touch a p/s for years, and after the renewed experience i know why. i prefer my "real" cams so much....

Well thats it. Three negatives scanned and uploaded. It was very hard to choose just three, but I loved the challenge and freedom of shooting a competion with simple equipment. Can this be made a regular feature please

Cheers, John.

FINAL DAY FOR ENTRIES. DEADLINE IS MIDNIGHT PACIFIC DAYLIGHT TIME (GMT -8).

Well here we are, the final day for submissions. The deadline above means that if you live in certain parts of the world, AU and Japan for example, you have until Saturday mid-afternoon your time to submit. Friends in NYC can do some late night enveloping and submit in the wee hours of Saturday morning if they like. heck, grab a plastic camera from he drugstore today if need be and shoot a roll... one hour developing means anyone can still take part.

If you've done some shooting with a P&S in the past month get those entries in and add them to the fine collection of images that have already been submitted. I think everyone is going to be very surprised to see the quality that has been achieved using some very basic tools.

Keep them coming!

Kent

Thanks for holding this challenge! Enjoyed shooting my P&S during this period.

The bad thing is that I am trolling on evilbay for other good P&S deals :bang:

I have tried to limit my purchases of point and shoot cameras to local thrift-store purchases only, but then something unique or unusual pops up on eBay, like these:

and I am powerless to resist. Kent, (happy birthday!) I am interested in seeing some results from that Prod 20. Stylistically, it looks interesting, but I haven't heard much good about it from a functional viewpoint. I am hoping that you can prove "them" wrong.

I got a Rollei Prego 70 at the last moment and I was still able to shoot one roll with it for the contest. I won it basically for nothing and I actually really like it.

Fantastic entries in this challenge and worthy of high praise, considering the humble cameras used to shoot them. I found it hard to choose, but I managed to cast my votes eventually.
