After a day or two of shooting it was a hard call to decide which single image to choose for submission. As such many of us may have had some interesting images left on the cutting room floor which would be fun to have a peek at.

Share your images form December 15th and 16th that didn't make the cut into the contest and feel free to describe the scene and possibly why you didn't go with it.

Here are a few of mine and a link to my entire outtake gallery (those images I even remotely thought of submitting).

This gentleman was near the entrance to the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, a very busy place indeed. I peeked over, saw him and couldn't help myself from taking the shot. I then spoke to him a bit and gave him a few bucks for a cup of coffee. This is the image I most regret not submitting to the Challenge (I went with Levitation (http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8369/8368238526_61917418a1_c_d.jpg)).
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8043/8406838617_2e71593d87_c_d.jpg

Early on Day #1 I was wandering around Chinatown in San Francisco, I started at about 7am, and I came across the pork delivery truck supplying small markets in the area. I kicked myself for missing a killer head on shot, I wasn't expecting it, but I got this on a second pass through the neighborhood. This was another strong contender for submission in my mind.
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8470/8406838773_6223ff6d3a_c_d.jpg

This shot was taken a little later on the first day as I made my way back from Chinatown. This window was in Union Square and the image as you see it had quite a bit of post processing applied to make the image pop and have the christmas tree more visible in the reflection. I liked the shot a lot but wasn't sure it would resonate with our audience in this competition.

During Santacon, a collection of a few thousand Santa's around Noon on Saturday, I ran across this scene in what I called "Happy Santa". The reason for his happiness is obvious. Almost submitted due to the whimsical nature of the image.

I only had chance to shoot a roll or so at a flea market, and didn't take any worth entering - but here's one of my outtakes from the roll: 'Freedom is relative'

Here are a few of mine, with a link to the rest as well..

If you haven't heard about the protests in Belfast, this is what the 'peaceful' ones look like.

While not exactly "street photography" this is a photo I took during the 2 day window for shooting that I might have entered if nothing else worked.

My entry was Watching Life Pass By. I was stuck in my hometown that weekend. It's a small area of around 14,000 people. I went to the local greasy spoon since I knew that would be the only concentration of people. Here are shots I got from inside.

I had a really, really difficult time choosing between this picture and "Chinatown 1889". :bang: Even now I still have 2nd thoughts.

I had two candidates:

"Christmas"

http://ferider.smugmug.com/Picture-a-Week/2012/1212-Ax/i-krPP69F/0/XL/Scan-121216-0009-XL.jpg

and "The Heist"

http://ferider.smugmug.com/Picture-a-Week/2012/1212-Ax/i-MDwQnhV/0/XL/submission-XL.jpg

I submitted The Heist via Kent's website. Unfortunately it never arrived at its destination. That being said I don't think it was good enough .... tough to shoot in a given time frame and I'll try again next time :)

Roland, I can't figure out why, exactly, I very much like "Christmas". It has some sort of classic timeless feel to it. I think I would have voted for it in my top three. :o

Great stuff! I like photojournalism-style images that give me a glimpse into life in other parts of the world. Seeing these makes me think that we need a separate kind of competition (or just a thread) for serial images that tell a story. Kent...? :)

Great shot!

I find myself wondering the name of the ski area where you took this shot.

One day I took my well wrapped Leica (to keep it from freezing) up to Mt. Hood Meadows in Oregon and took some b&w images but I never got anything near as nice as yours :D

Hi. I submitted "Bad weather, late train", but was unhappy about it. Learned late about the challenge, but went out afternoon, 2nd day to shoot a roll. Made a stupid decision about the place to go, and (as expected) learned upon having the role developed that nothing worthwhile was on it :bang:. Turned in one photo nevertheless (as I promised to myself before going out).

Later I became somewhat attached to this photo, which I shot as the last one on my way home. It was originally muddy grey, due to severe underexposure. But it rescued nicely in Photoshop.

Wow Kent! You really left some nice work on the "cutting room floor". The 1st and the 4th really appeal to me. Great idea to start this thread up. I'm curious: It looks like the woman hugging in the Santacon photo has a small tattoo on the small of her back - can you tell me what it says?

Kent, j.scooter, clint troy, Jamie Pilliers, ornate_wrasse - Thanks for your kind words regarding my "Ski Swirl" photo!

ferider: I agree with Jamie Pillars your "Christmas" shot is very nice. The Santa walking across the shot, the low contrast, framing, angle - all work very nicely.

ice bear: Some really nice shots there! I especially like the two ladies in their pi's, the $5 each photo, and the guy sitting on a pipe.
