Ladies and gentlemen, Print Swap I and Print Swap II were things of legend but are now, alas, part of the past.

I now bring you Print Swap III

Go here for the FAQ...

http://home.comcast.net/~seaskate/index_files/Page361.htm

...and it should answer any questions. If, however, you are still puzzled or confused, email me at the address in the link and we can be puzzled and confused together. ;)

These swaps have been REALLY great. I have one wall in my study devoted to these and look forward to this next swap.

There is some amazing talent on this forum.

As the holidays approach, we may not have time for another Print Swap before the end of of the year, so if you have been putting off participating, now is the time.

Tom

PS: Joe, would you kindly pin this message and un-pin the last Swap post lest there is any confusion. Thanks.

Just a note to all who missed the last one. Jump in. I have had an opportunity so I am standing aside on this one to ensure all have a chance.

Tom, thanks for your coordination and work on the Second RFF Swap.

I'll sit in the bullpen...if participation is thin (the Holidays 'tis they near) I'll jump in, gladly...

I'll give it a rest this time. I'm still a bit confused after moving house and NOT having any internet for 4 weeks. Lots of catching up to do. And the last print swap I was probably the last to sent off the print. As it is, I didn't get a return print yet....

For those in doubt, join in! It's a great way to see other members' work in real life, and it'll give some focus to your shooting and printing (for those who don't print usually).

I don't understand the negative assumptions about inkjet prints. Limited experience?

Goodyear
11-05-2005, 08:01
Is it not more that it is much more difficult to produce an archivally trustworthy inkjet print than traditional wet print? And that not only is the display life of inkjet prints unproven, but also that without specialist archival materials they have already been found to have an incredibly short life?

T_om
11-05-2005, 16:58
Wilhelm tests are interesting and are all we have to go on at the moment, along with a lot of empirical observations, but they are hardly the last say in the matter.

Epson pigment inks *seem* to be the archival inkset of choice and have certainly won out in the Wilhelm tests. But none of these prints have been around for several decades, so people are betting (and hoping) that the longevity projections are accurate.

Almost NO dye based inks have fared well either in testing or in real life observations.

I would put about as much faith in manufacturers claims of longevity as I would in politicians keeping their campaign promises.

By the way, inkjet prints are not banned from the swap.

If you want in, get in soon.

Last bump.

I will be closing the rolls this weekend and doing the drawing. Should have the match-up post ready by Sunday night or Monday morning, US Eastern Time.

So, last call for anyone wanting to participate. Going to be another GREAT swap!

RML,

Your print is finally in the mail.

I can give several excuses, but excuses are just reasons wrapped in lies.

Let's just say that I finally got back from vacation, got over being sick, finished my moving and finally set up darkroom, and then repaired my enlarger that was damaged in the move.

And I guess I just wanted to be the last one .

Sorry.

No need to be sorry, Wayne.
As it is, I was the last before you. :)
For me it was just moving house that interfered.

I'm looking forward to the print anyway.

I think he is referring to getting the print in the mail within the "two week after notification" rule.

No worries though, there will be a Print Swap IV coming along in the future.

Ok guys, here are the match-ups.

Just as in Print Swap I, we had an odd number of participants, so the first name out of the hat and the last name out of the hat are paired with me to even things up. I sure don't mind sending two prints out and getting two. Some REALLY good shooters here.

The "Two Weeks To Mail The Print" clock starts now, so get going. :)

Email addresses are included below to help the participants get in touch with each other to pass info. If there is an email problem, contact me and I will pass you your partners snail mail address. I am not the world's best typist, so typographical errors may have crept into the below info.

Any chance of you obfuscating those email addresses a little, Tom?

I had managed to keep that address fairly spma-free, is all, and this page would be heaven for a bot...

Sorry for any spam that might result.

Glad you like it.

I figured matting would help in case it got crushed. But then I probably overkilled it double-boxing it anyway.

Received T_om's print yesterday (beautifully done print of a green palm) - This is great, I've got a wall of my apartment dominated now by RFF members. :)

Mine went out today, should arrive in Florida between Tuesday and Thursday...

When's RFF swap IV?

Print Swap IV will begin in January after everyone has time to recuperate a bit after the Holidays.

PLEASE (anyone that might be thinking it) do not send any signup email as yet. I'll post the start as usual and get Joe to stick it when it gets rolling. I am not set up to filter email right now as I do when the Print Swap emails start coming in.

just learned a funny lesson.
Do not try sending things outside the USA in those white envelopes with green/whote border that say FIRST CLASS.

My print was going to NZ and it took about 7 weeks before it came back to my house with a note saying I couldn;t use that envelope to mail abroad...:bang: :bang:

I received prints from my second partner, Robin, thanks so much. Your infamous "which bokeh" shot is excellent, and love how the little fisherman + boat gives a nice sense of scale.. without that element, the scene would look much smaller.

Thanks :)
