The latest from www.redmolotov.com is "Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months." (Oscar Wilde). Today I've been wearing Romani Ite Domum (fans of the Life of Brian will understand, as well as general Latinists). There's also one from Aldous Huxley: The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.

Can you think of any photographic quotes that would also be of interest to the general public? This probably lets out f/8 and be there.

Take a look at their web-site for inspiration.

Cheers,

R.

I enjoy my Frederick Sommer t-shirt, which reads,
"Enthusiasm is the duty of understanding
Before the night fatal to remembrance."

The shirt is black, long sleeve, and doubles as an excellent darkcloth.

But I think her On Photography is mandatory reading together with Roland Barthes Camera Lucida and perhaps Photography: A Middle-Brow Art by Pierre Bourdieu and Shaun Whiteside.

Just as nice as photographing homeless people or different cultures it's good to look in the mirror. And this is not meant to be the usual self portrait against the bathroom mirror as my own avatar praxis shows.

Yes. One can often learn a great deal about both art and oneself by forcing oneself to read stuff with which one disagrees violently.

Much as I agree with the old Dr. Johnson quote that I do not need to be a carpenter to say whether a table is well made or not, I can't help feeling that a highly personal and disputable view of photography by a non-photographer may be of limited usefulness when it comes to advice on making, using and understanding photographs. Sontag is really only dressing up 'I don't know much about photography, but I know what I like' in a slightly different but equally well-worn suit of clothes. All right, not 'like' but 'think important'.

Cheers,

R.

But personally I'm partial to "Smoke crack and worship satan!" tshirt. Not photographic, but oh well. I hope to own it one day.

More Off Topic shirts:

My personal favorite when its Test Week at school: "Is that your final answer?"
Also: "I think I'm confused! No, wait, maybe I'm not..."
For festivals: "The liver is evil and must be punished"
For that job you're about to leave: "Chaos, panic, disaster: I think my work here is done"

On Topic suggestion:

"Gotcha!" - To show every time I lower the camera.
