20 Nov 2016; Looking NW here to the last 10 miles or so of the Saddle Road that passes between the two major mountains and eastward to Hilo. The top of the hill visible here is about the highest point on the road but this original section has been replaced by a new route coming in from the left with the intersection behind the camera position. The new section and the rest of the way to Hilo is now wide and smooth, a major highway that used to be a bumpy back road. It was used for access to a military installation and the ski area & telescopes on Mouna Kea (and Mauna Loa telescope), and car rental agencies warned tourists away from it. Hwy 200, Hawaii.
