Description:

Leica M5 3-Lug in Silver Chrome

I know I’ll regret selling this, but I am convinced that that M4-P & M4BP combo each mated with Leicavit is THE setup for me ( IF for wide-angle fun) so I’m letting go of this beautiful M5 to focus on the essentials on the gear and spend more time in the darkroom for my next exhibit.

This is 1971 M5 with 3 lugs. Super clean. Probably one of the best cosmetic condition vintage Ms I’ve ever owned. It was CLA’d by Sherry, then Don did battery compartment cleanup and 1.5v battery conversion afterwards. The frameline mask unit was replaced with a NOS genuine M5 unit by Don as the original delaminated (there is a very small and thin glass in the unit) when I bought it. This part is very hard to come by, and usually the replacement unit will be from newer Ms. This is the very last unit Don had, which shows the unique “(  )” metering area when 50mm FL is shown. 50mm frameline has a couple of spots not showing but that’s a  tiniest lint on mask according to Don. I will try to post a picture looking through VF later.

“92” seal present. Sherry’s work order indicates (a scan will be included to this sale) her complete overhaul and that “L” seal was present at that time. Don’s estimate email screenshot will also be included. I think this is pretty darn ideal for a vintage M. Only worked on by the masters (Leica Wetzlar, Sherry and Don) from its birth to today.

Now the bad news. The light meter JUST started to act weird. It reads too bright. I’ve read that this could well be a simple physical disconnection of the wiring inside, but I am no mechanic so I’d like to sell this as “light meter inoperable” condition. Before developing this issue, the light meter was spot-on with 1.5v battery, and the battery compartment, light meter needles inside of VF and everything remaining clean.

A few random items for sale as well (price significantly lowered from the last ad):

Rare vintage “faceted” Pilot/Namiki Vanishing Point fountain pen with Medium nib

This is highly desirable “faceted” Vanishing Point with 14k gold medium size nib. Some signs of use on the barrel, but no cracks or structural damage. Nib has been tuned by Dan aka Nib Smith and it writes wonderfully. (sorry no paper work for this as he did it for me as a personal favor)

Comes with CON-20 converter.

[SOLD]

Leitz MR-4 light meter in black chrome
OK/user cosmetics with signs of use, but fully functional and no dents, cracks or structural damage. I got it with my M4-P from an RFF member, and he stated the previous owner had it calibrated to factory specs. (Note: calibrated to the original 1.35v battery, NOT 1.5v.) I have no paperwork to prove it, but it was working great for me. I just don’t use light meter much. Stored without battery (sorry no battery included as I don’t have any now)

[SOLD]

Leitz 35mm SBLOO viewfinder

Very clean for the age, very slight rattle of front element (common for this viewfinder, nothing is falling off). Bright frame is bright and full.

[SOLD]

Leitz OZTNO self timer (APDOO) adapter for M bodies (Rare!)

[SOLD]

Fujifilm M-mount adapter

Works great. Clean with minimum signs of use. Comes with the rear cap (never came with front), papers and box.

$100 shipped to CONUS using personal Paypal payment.

That is one very lovely silver chrome M5 - with a nice history in reparis too.

Maybe Don Goldberg could be asked to have a look into the meter by the new owner?

GLWS - too bad I have too many M bodies already.

Thanks guys for positive comments. That M5 is definitely a gem, and I'm glad it's going to a good member of RFF.

Everything but the Fuji M mount adapter (official one) is now SOLD.

Thanks all!
