Deep Purple - presidio by L'Eidolon, on Flickr

Deep Purple on Golden Red by L'Eidolon, on Flickr

Just received a batch of velvia film back from the lab. Apparently, my scanner can't handle the darks of velvia very well. That or my pictures are quite poor. Maybe both

Thanks a lot Jean-Marc. Well appreciated. I wish i had exposed them a bit longer though. I didn't want the bridge to be blown out, but they're too dark. Maybe a good scan (like drumscan) could pull more details... i might try someday

Myxine, you can bring down the highlights in Camera Raw 7 or Lightroom 4 . How long did you expose for ?
Cheers, JM.

Velvia is quite unforgiving for blown highlights, so i usually don't take too much risks with it (silly me, the China beach pic was the last one of the roll, nothing else in my pocket) Exposure was around 30s - 1min with and i think i opened at f/8 to stay under reciprocity failure.

Looking at the film under bright light, there's more details than scanned, though maybe not so much Oh well, next time i'll go, i'll have more rolls in the pocket ah ah

I eventually replaced my Widelux F7 with a Horizon 202 because the mechanism was more robust. The widelux is very prone, well both are by some standards, to banding.

I also now have a Noblex 135, but its finicky rubber drive wheel has developed the characteristic flattening and fails to start properly now.

I never used the Widelux viewfinder because it didn't represent the scene accurately. I simply composed with the field-of-vew lines on top of the camera.

I thoroughly enjoy the swing-lens view, but am now playing with a self-modified GSW690 to run 35mm film. I know "Sacrilege!"

Some more pics from the Widelux ... I'm absolutely hooked on this camera and all desires to get an X-Pan have evaporated!

I also discovered some info on line that describes how to strip and clean the shutter and swing mechanism ... not at all complex by the looks of it and appears to very robust. I also replaced the light seals as they had totally gone which amazingly has improved the feel of the camera by stoping the back from creaking and rattling.

And ... I have yet to photograph my fingers!

Zion National Park, Utah. Lower Emerald Pool "waterfall". As this is the dry season, the waterfall is not quite as majestic as it ought to be.
