| Philosophy of Photography Taking pics is one thing, but understanding why we take them, what they mean, what they are best used for, how they effect our reality -- all of these and more are important issues of the Philosophy of Photography. One of the best authors on the subject is Susan Sontag in her book "On Photography." |

What (if anything) would make you give up photography ?
Seeing commentary in a recent thread about how someone would give up photography if they could no longer use 6x7, I wonder what would (if anything) push you to give up photography, if it were not there.
Myself, I'm not sure equipment would cause me to give up photography, although just like a painter who used oils might never want to use other materials, I can understand people's preference to work certain ways, as process can be as much an important part of art, as vision, in my opinion.
Personally, if I could draw as fast as I can capture a picture, I am sure photography would not appeal to me, as photography is just a way for me to capture something I see, imagine or experience. It is far from perfect in that respect, but for now, it is the best that's available to me.

I think going blind or visually impaired is what would make me quit photography,
If film would become unavailable I would just make the switch back to digital, even though I highly prefer film over digital.

Painting
Drawing
Blindness might be treatable with some photography-dependent technology in the future, and just maybe I could then keep my own photography going.

I couldn't decisively give it up. It would have to become physically impossible for some reason.

Having the police stop you from taking photos of whatever. More than it happens already, I mean.

Took a drawing class not so long ago, and may go back to it. I liked how the aspects of learning to draw, raised my awareness of things in photography. If you want to draw, you should try it and give it a concerted effort. Think like all things, looking at the finished results before you give something a try can be intimidating.

Burnout and boredom. It's happend three times so far.
I'm surprised by the number of people who say things like "death". There are so many other worthwhile things to do in life, I don't feel permanently nailed to any one of them.

If I could find a woman gullible enough to stand in front of a preacher and say "I do," I might find I don't have enough time for photography. Not having a SWMBO leaves a lot of spare time.

This is interesting, in the light of the famous quote from this man:
" I have discovered photography. Now I can kill myself. I have nothing else to learn."
