Industar 50 and the Canon IV?

Well, my $20 Industar 50 has arrived. I carefully mounted it on my Canon IV and it seems to collapse fine. Has anyone else used this combo before and confirm that it is a safe for my shutter curtains? How would one be able to test this as the camera back doesn't open?

Now, I may have to post this separately. What about a front cap, hood and maybe a filter for the Industar? From searching I think the front ring will take a 36mm slip on cap. Is this correct? If so, I think a Series V hood with 36mm adaptor ring will work, and perhaps if I want to use a filter this would be the best bet. Does anyone else have a better/different solution?

Heres my solution. I took a fsu push on filter and knocked out the glass,then took a 40.5 filter and removed the glass. Now the push on will tap fit into the rear of the 40.5, a touch of epoxy and now I have a 36mm push on to 40.5 adaptor. This way I can use one set of filters with all my lenses!

The Serenar on my IIa measures 19.5mm from the back of the lens mount flange to the very back of the lens barrel when it is collapsed. The shutter curtain is about 26.5mm behind the lens mount surface on the body. That leaves about 7mm of clearance. Measure the depth of the Industar to find out the clearance, etc.

it fits over 40.5 right?

Thanks Joe, it is tiny, the outside diameter is 36mm I believe. I think a lens cap will not be that hard to find. A hood and or filter on the other hand.

The aperture ring is on the front of the lens so filter use may not be practical.

the a36 push on filters aren't impossible to find but the Leica ones are a bit pricey. There is an accessory to put on the lens that will let you change aperture with a filter on. I've seen a couple of different ones.
I don't especially mind the aperture under glass--at least the fstop stays where I put it until I decide to change it. A little slow but that's a big part of the appeal(for me) of these things.
Hoods I haven't found yet but there oughta be something available.

Lens cap for the I-50:

By a gallon of milk in the standard plastic jug. Drink the milk. Throw away the jug--keep the cap. Go to a Home Depot. Get one of those packages of velcro strips with self-stick adhesive on the back. Take the soft fuzzy piece of Velcro. Cut a couple of pieces off narroe enough to fit on the sides inside the milk jug cap. Spray paint cap to your individual tastes of leave it natural color. You now have a lens cap for a collapsible I-22 or I-50.

I was thinking of rigging up a home made hood today but forgot to get the black cloth tape. Next trip out. I did get a little depth measuring ruler so I will have a semi exact measurement of the body clearance to make me confident it is good to go.
