While those scans look alright to me on my work monitor, I did find on my last batch of scans that the highlights were a bit hot on several of them. I'm not talking about small bits of highlights, but thinks like the road in the foreground. In my case, the black point could have been set a bit lower actually.
No worries though. All in all, they were still huge scans for a good price. I only have to redo 3-5 frames out of 6 or 7 rolls, so it still saved me a lot of time.

I will have many rolls after my Europe trip. Would you recommend to me to mail all film for developing and scanning at this lab?

Raid, absolutely!
I have just finished all shooting and processing for my current photo essay and the scans were so much better than anything I could get in Atlanta. I still had to process the final images to get the look I wanted but they did a good job with the black and white processing for me and at 26mb!

Froyd -
just note on your next order about your concerns with the contrast issues and they will accomodate.
Tim Gray-
Same for you, just let the lab know and they will adjust to your wants.
Raid -
Don't take my word for it, I work for Precision so I'm a little biased , but take Dave Lackey's and many other RFF member's word for it. Just give us a shot, and we'll impress, promise.
Dave -
I owe you a beer sir, constantly singing our praises. Appreciate the loyalty.

Well, I got my first two rolls back the other day (1 Velvia, 1 XP2) and I think the processing and scanning are first-rate. There has to be some adjustment going on here; there's no way my exposures were that accurate, as I mostly kept my meter in my pocket. My only complaint is that I requested strips of 6, and one of the rolls got cut into strips of 4--but maybe that was my mistake.
My only request is that we be able to d/l the results via FTP, eventually.
Great work, Christian--I love these scans.

Will do. The first batch I sent in was perfect. This batch was maybe 95% - still very good and I'm still very happy I'll be sure to write a few notes next time.
Raid - I'd send my film there with no reservations. They do a great job. Everything is well sleeved and packaged. The two XPan rolls I sent were done correctly - great scans on those too.
The biggest pain is the fact that 35mm scans are often over 20 megs in size, so you can't upload them directly to flickr . (this is not a real problem for me - I'd rather have huge scans than small ones). The Xpan scans are weighing in at 35-50, so they definitely need to be downsized or compressed more before they go to flickr.

We are trying to get our FTP service up, but unfortunately the gentleman who was our webmaster had to leave and I do not have access to the information on how he was uploading FTP for customers. As soon as I find out, we will provide this service to our customers.
As for the adjustments, yes, the lab adjusts each develop/scan to a more "correct" exposure. If you do not want this done to your film, please note on the order form.
Glad to hear the scans are turning out good for you! Thanks for your patronage!

I just sent 12, count 'em, 12 rolls for processing. I can't wait to see the results! (I've forgotten what's on some of the rolls.)

Rather than FTP, you could take a look at services like Amazon S3, or even Dropbox or box.net, save you the bother of dealing with the bandwidth issues.

I've been gone from the forum for a while and just started reading again. This is a pretty good service it seems. I'll have to give it a try with my next batch.

Christian,
Is it the same $11.99 per roll if I send already-developed negatives?
Is it the same price if I send cut or uncut negs?
Thanks,
Ari
EDIT: Oh, and if I send you uncut negs, will you cut them?

Nice to see that my local lab is getting a lot of business from RFF! I've always been really pleased with Precision's developing and scanning. Keep up the good work, Christian!

Christian,
Based on this thread, I decided to give Precision Camera a try, and I just sent in 7 rolls of a variety of film (including some "mystery" rolls of undeveloped film I found in my basement and in cameras I haven't used in years - hopefully something interesting there!).
I'm looking forward to receiving my negatives/scans, and hopefully I'll be sending you a bunch more film in the future!
Thanks in advance!
Scott

Thanks...based on your post I had expected to hear from Precision by Tuesday. I called yesterday and took care of it.

If you want scans mainly for flickr, then such large scans are not needed.

Quick update for folks still considering this service:
I put my 5 rolls in the mail one week ago, and received a request for payment last night - so, that's 6-7 (calendar) day turnaround for payment (I'm in California). I'll drop an update again once the negs and scans arrive.
So far, so good - and PCV's customer service seems pleasant to deal with, btw.
Cheers,
--joe.

For me, this is an easy way to shoot film which I enjoy. Shoot, mail, and get scans that I can use for a lot of purposes. Yes, Raid, they are much bigger than you need for posting online, but I have a scan that's a pretty good basis for most things I want to do with images: enjoy on screen, print, enlarge, and pass on to others via web/email. These handle 95% of my needs.
With effort, I can make a slightly better scan on my Coolscan V. I do this for a few selected images.
