Legacy pro 100

With all the threads about Fuji Neopan 400, would someone that
has used the Legacy 100 care to comment on you experience
w/this film ?

It's my slow B&W film of choice; I really like it, a lot better than what I got with Arista Premium 100. Don't know if I have any scanned examples handy though.

Just do a search using 'Acros' as your search term and you should come up with a good bit regarding this film. You might want to go 'Advance' and specify searching titles only. I really like this film and mostly soup in Rodinal.

ethics_gradient , thanks for the reply since I was going to try some
of this while Freestyle has some short dated rolls left. It appears that all
of the Legacy 400 is history.

I absolutely love the stuff.

LP100 is Fuji ACROS. IIRC, Freakscene, a poster here, has subjected the emulsion to GC/MS analysis and all but proved that the emulsion is Fuji ACROS 100. I have measured the base thicknesses and shown that, contrary to claims by some here, LP100 and ACROS have the same base thickness (within a small measurement tolerance).

I develop all the Fuji B& W films in XTOL 1:1. Results with this film in Rodinal 1:50 were less to my taste. The ISO 100 rating seems very accurate under my conditions. The film has extremely fine grain, good latitude and holds a tremendous amount of highlight detail. It has smoother tonality to my eye than any other 35mm film/dev combination that I've personally tried. In 35mm it's almost reminiscent of an old-school ISO 125 film on a 645 camera.

Mt. Hamilton, California, Aug 2010. Big version. Note that grain would appear finer on a conventional print than vs. this scan.

It's just shockingly, staggeringly good film for the price: the LP100 currently being sold by Freestyle is as mentioned above close to its expiration date (Jan 2011, I think), but it's only $24/100 feet. And not a whole lot more for preloaded cassettes.

I should add that, like any off-label film, there's no guarantee that it will be around forever. The LP400 (Neopan 400) is gone, and Freestyle don't seem to be willing to say whether it will return. So if you get some, get enough to learn how to handle it, and enough more that it will be worth the effort of getting that far.

By far my favorite black and white film. I expose it at 320 and process with diafine.

One other lovely thing about ACROS/LP100: it has an extremely low base+fog density, which helps a lot with scanning.

It is indeed Fuji Acros. And while I am confident that Semilog's measurements are correct, the base of LP 100 feels different to that of Acros to me; perhaps less stiff. I don't have any way of measuring its resistance to creasing or anything useful like that, however. And I could be wrong.

Acros @ 100, Xtol 1+1. 75 Summilux:

I can only comment on what I can readily measure, and Youngs modulus, plastic deformation, etc. is not on the list.

Okay, just ordered another 40 rolls. That will give me about 70 in the freezer.

I should say at this point that late last week I spoke with one of the folks at Freestyle, and she told me rather bluntly, when I asked, that there will likely not be another batch of LP100. As in, it's going away. There won't be any more.

The stuff that's left has (so far as I know) a 2011/01 expiration date. On the other hand, it's an ISO100 film, so it should store well in the freezer.

So... if this is your thing, best to stock up now, or pay full fare for Neopan ACROS 100 later.

My order of LP 100 has the same exp. date also. Don't think
what I have will last long enough to reach that date. I have
some loaded as we speak.

Expiration date

My order came with an expiration date of 5/2011. Ordered 100 rolls and it should last me a year.Have another 40 rolls of expired ACROS to finish before starting the LP100.

Nice to hear that. Another 6 months of shelf life is useful.

It's Acros.

Incredibly sharp high quality film.

But in my opinion: boring curve/tonality.
