Roll of film wouldn't advance past the 22nd frame...

Wondering if anybody else experienced this problem before. Shot a roll of Delta 3200 in my M4-2, everything went fine until around the 22nd frame. I was able to depress the shutter and advance the lever repeatedly, however the rewind knob didn't turn. Kept trying several times before I finally gave up and rewound the roll.

When I developed the film, everything had been exposed normally up until the 22nd frame, which had been exposed multiple times. The roll seemed completely normal, as long in length as the other 2 rolls of Delta 3200 I developed at the same time. Nothing abnormal about the sprockets or anything.

Any idea what might have caused this? I've exposed about 50 rolls in my M4-2 since getting it without any problems.

Happened to me with short rolls (tho I'd just wind-in without multiple exposures), and once when my film transport mechanism went belly up on a Minolta SRT.

Loading with a back open?

I've had it happen when I inadvertently wound on too much leader.
