M6 maintenance question

With all these talks about Leica USA not repairing film cameras anymore and independent repairers taking months to fix a camera, what can I do to keep my camera in tip top shape? Is there any preventative maintenance I can do myself? I have an M6 non-ttl by the way.

Use it! The best way to keep a camera going. And if it should need repairing, send it to Solms. My M6 is there right now, receiving some sorely needed rejuvenation. No reason not to expect good work from them.
