M7 custom options

Does anyone know if the MP-style M7 controls available through the à la carte program are able to be added as a modification (i.e., not through the program, but say by someone like DAG or by sending it back to Leica)? Or even better, if the parts are available for purchase so I could mod it myself? I know this is the case with the advance lever, not sure about the s/s dial.

Any info appreciated!

I predict that the posted answers vis the shutter speed dial will be no, you cannot put an MP-style dial on an M7. The dials turn in opposite directions. The M7 has more shutter speed options than is indicated on an MP dial.

Perhaps my wording wasn't on point. I didn't mean to imply that I wanted the MP shutter dial on the M7.

When you order MP-style controls on the M7 via the à la carte program, the shutter speed dial is a thinner, metallic dial like on some of the M6 special editions.

Cole, I am sure that the parts you desire are available from Leica, although you might shriek at the cost. Just call them directly and ask for "Parts". 1-800-222-0118

MP-like flatter dial: I understand now.

This might answer your question: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/phot.../product/23365

There was an ad for an M7 with MP controls that are fitted by Leica after the initial sale. That was a perfect example of what you can do to M7 that started the life as regular M7, but looks like it's sold or simply taken down already.

Was it with the Napa Racing green leather? If so, I saw it on the Let's See Your Leica M thread, and it was beautiful!

Leica M7 Custom Options

Cole:

I had the Leica M7/P advertised on RFF for sale. I believe this is the one with the Nappa Racing Green Cover and MP controls about which you were inquiring in the above posting.

I removed it from the For Sale section as quite frankly, it appears that the present market for customized Leicas, even Leica customizations, is rather "weak" so to speak. I was slightly more than ambivalent about selling it in the first place and only contemplated selling it as I am now thinking about having Leica customize an MP with M7 features.

If you have any specific questions about the customization project, please contact me by e-mail and I will be glad to provide any assistance with respect to my experience with Leica in effecting the a La Carte like customization/conversion.

Howard
