Sudden lust for a black paint leica.......
I don't think I can justify getting myself another M-mount camera.
However I have this sudden deep lust for a black paint leica. Been looking at BP leica MPs and also M4......... I want it. I just want it aaarrrghhhh headache headache.
Just a pre-bedtime confession.

I only buy stuff I use and I am not a collector. But, years ago, I bought a Rolleiflex with a Xenotar lens in it. Original box, instructions, case, lens cap, hood, etc. Almost mint. I use it, but not that often. This is the closest I have come to a 'trophy' camera. I think a M4 BP would be the 35mm equivalent of the Rollei for me.

Yes the black MP I have is a luxury. I don't need a black paint Leica and my M2 works just fine. I don't even bother saying "black camera is more discrete etc."
I'll just say this: I beat the **** out of my MP with no babying whatsoever. It's even sexier than when it was cleaner, and I do not regret getting it nor "abusing" it.

GAS attacks come and go, but for me, a Black Paint M4 is, and always will be, my dream camera.
I'll own one someday.

I lust after a brand new black paint M7... Then I'll spend the next 20 years getting the brass to show.
My Black M8 is beautiful but will it still be usable in 20 years? (Hope so)

With a black paint M4 and/or MP3 perhaps you may sleep better, which would equate to being both healthier and happy. All advantages, what's not to like..

Brassing makes it a unique personal camera, doesn't it. As highly coveted as is BP Leica gear, I wonder why they don't make more of it? It always comes at a top premium and nearly impossible to find brand new.
The most fun combo I ever had was a BP MP, BP 50 pre-asph Lux, and BP Leicavit.

The MP I got from you has got married with Elmar-M 50, been to France and Japan. It gained many battle scars, brassing and new leatherette covering, but still looking beautiful and working great.

I hear ya. I love old black paint cameras. Always wanted a black Spotmatic. I second the lust for a black paint M4 but since I already have an M4, I'd "settle" for a black Nikon SP.
one of these days...

There's a black Nikon F in the Classifieds, USD 360 with a 105/2.5 Sonnar Nikkor. Nicest brassing I ever saw, stellar lens. No connection to seller (who's selling it anyway?)
I'm being generous here pointing this out to you, mind y'all
The black F is the SLR I longed for most, but I'm currently paying the bills through the nose, so no gear for me now.

That's actually my friend Sam who's selling it. The body is cosmetically "worn" to be fair, but like most well worn cameras, it works perfectly. I looked it over and was jealous of it just last week, as a matter of fact.
I'd buy it right now if I could afford it.

Also meant to say: I have a non-original BP M3 DS (1955) and its great shooting it. Get one.
The only camera that is easy to afford and just as nice in BP as the Leica M3 is this:

Thick Black Paint over brass, and the lettering on the body is Woods' metal, just like on the black M3's.
I'm in the process of brassing that one now

I love my M4-p black paint. I haven't noticed any brassing yet, but there are some paint chips on the back of the camera

I've always felt that black looked better than silver period. I got my first M6 in a trade, and it was silver, however I found a black .58 m6 for 900, so I finally get to ditch the silver one.

I do miss my black M4. But only a bit. I didn't take my best photos with it. Which matters, a bit. So I"m happy with my CL. Altho I have never taken a photo of it...

For quite awhile I wanted a black M4P really bad but they were all pretty expensive. Well, expense to the wind I now have a black M6.

Black paint m
I had a black paint m4, it was well worn and just in a way beautiful .
Knowing it was worth very much - it was not used much .
In the end I sold it on rff about a year ago .
The black chrome m5 that I use does not have that look - a black paint
Camera will show the brass and wear . The one I had was blistered in spots
On the paint .
It looked as if it was carried every day of the 41 years since it was made .
A black camera is very beautiful for sure .
If you can afford it you will not regret .
You must forget it's value and add to it's wear and beauty.

I hate these threads!
I need a black paint MP like I need a hole in the head but every time one of these threads crops up I have this image in my mind of a tastefully brassed ... well you know the rest!
