Interesting Links for DIY and Projects, place here.

I'll start with one,

Kim Coxon's excellent site, with some great instructions for FSU lens CLA and free-for-download repair manuals.

For LF projects there are many a site. But start here at fellow compatriot Jon Grepstad's site and you'll find many of them through the links page.

Main site: http://home.online.no/~gjon/

A treasure trove of a projects a resources inks page: http://home.online.no/~gjon/camerabuilders.htm

Relevance to RF? Well there are more than a few RF LF cameras out there being modified every day. One such site: http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~razzle/

There are a number of projects on Flickr. This guy tackles any type of camera build, from LF to pano conversion of a Nimslo stereo camera with Mamiya press parts. See pages 2 and 3 for cameras.

And for protecting your eyeglass lens from Leica-M eyepiece

Try this. Cheap at $12.89/100. Share a pack.

http://www.mcmaster.com/#o-rings/=62m4fv

Part Number: 90025K378

Select: Quad, 0-ring, dia. 5/8" ID, any width (ring thickness, best at 1/8") and Buna-N (hard rubber) material. The ring profile fits the M eyepiece as if custom made.

cleaning a Dial set Compur shutter

Page on opening and cleaning a dial set Compur shutter.

I acquired a Welta 9x12 plate camera for EUR 5.00
Had the lenses clean in no-time (all elements unscrew, cool!) but the shutter is stuck at 1/200th. I hope its only gummed up and will have a go at this procedure this evening.

creating your own ground glass

A page on creating your own ground glass for view cameras, and possibly other types of cameras as well.

Takes little investing, but approx. 1 hour of grinding window glass to get the better results. Quick approach leaves you with good glass in 15 minutes.

Next action in restoring that 9x12 plate Welta I got, now that the shutter fires again

Anyone know how to paint brass with a high gloss finish? and how to remove chrome from brass without damaging it?

Thanks
Rob

Edit: I know about nitrocellulose lacquer, but I'm trying to stay away from that due to its volatility.

DIY SLR and Rangefinder

This guy designed, machined, and built his own 35 mm SLR inlcuding a Leica-type focal plane cloth shutter.
See http://www.collection-appareils.fr/p...hp?f=37&t=6946 (in French) and http://www.collection-appareils.fr/p...hp?f=37&t=8822 (for an English translation of the thread).

He has also made a 35 mm rangefinder camera, see http://www.collection-appareils.fr/p...hp?f=37&t=9185 (sorry, only in French so far). <br />
(Found on photo.net: http://photo.net/classic-cameras-forum/00X6FL).

I would suspect you need to etch-prime the brass for the paint to stick. The same goes for aluminium. An etch primer eats its way into the brass, they are normally two pack.

My pictorial for a DIY lens clean of a Canon 50/1.2 RF lens is here, in this article I describe how to hack the Perfex Wollensak 50/2.8 into a Leica LTM mount, and here you can read how to load 120 spool film into a 620 Kodak Medalist II.

All these articles are available as a PDF file, and on my web site (see signature)
