Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. All Hail for the Leica Marketing Department learning Leica M history!

This looks like a 100% replica of the original Leica-M grip. My problem with buying it would not be that these are copies of the original Leica part, but that they are shipped from China and the seller is not 100% positive.
At 277 feedback a seller should have 100% rating, not 98%.

The odd thing about this grip is the claim it fits M8 as well as film M bodies, while the M8 body is thicker. At the price it is attractive, but I'd still prefer the more compact Leica grip integrated with the baseplate. I find that grip very comfortable and secure.

It can never fit the M8/9 The locking screw is offset film body style. With the M8 the tripod screw hole is in the middle....

I stumbled upon those grips on eBay Germany just today, so I thought I'd revive this old thread.

Did anybody actually order one of those things so far? They also sell wrist-straps and sync-outlet plugs - all stuff I'd like to have for my MD-2. But even though it's quite cheap I want to avoid waiting in anticipation for weeks only to be really disappointed when it finally arrives.

Regards,
Bjoern

i wouldn't buy these. i'd go leica, which, of course, costs more. actually, i have a luigi leather case that has a built-in grip. i like that approach.

Q: Hello, I also have a Leica M8, and I have some questions: Will this fit correctly on the first M8 (not the M8.2)? Also, it seems like the grip is short on the bottom. Will I have to take off the original bas plate off? Or do I keep it on? I do no want the battery or anything else falling off. If you can, please email me the instructions that comes with it. I really want to buy this! -Adam Jul-20-10

A: hi adam, this item could fit leica M8,but Not fit leica M8 very well, if you don't mind it, you could buy it. i don't advise you to buy this item if you want them match perfectly. regards Daisy

When I had my M8 I picked up a used genuine M grip that was like new for $90.00 ... I think it was off eBay from memory! I didn't actually like it much I discovered ... when holding the camera in a comfortable position it's too easy to block the rangefinder window with the tip of your index finger! I liked the look of it on the camera but thought the design was careless.

Interesting - they think the M8 and M8.2 are different... Guys don't waste your money!! They can never fit on an M8 or M9 !
