Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. All Hail for the Leica Marketing Department learning Leica M history!

1 genuine 4 aftermarket. None of the aftermarket has fault, just need to use up thoroughly before recharge.

I have 5 originals, used primarily on trips. Each battery lasts for about one 2GB card, so I usually change both at the same time, to be sure to have power to the last shot on that card.

I have two, both Leica brand. I got my spare from Amazon. I think if I needed more than two, I must be overshooting!

Three original Leica batteries. One from the camera and two purchased at the same time before an overseas trip. I never let them run down all the way and rotate their usage. I usually have one fully charged battery in my bag as a spare.

Four, all genuine. I had 3, but my original M8 battery just died, leaving me with 2, so I bought 2 more.

Cheers,

R.

I have two, and rarely need the spare. I get a couple hundred shots on a full day, but generally get that done on a single battery.

I had 3 for M8.2 (got all with the used camera). Then I moved onto an used M9 with 2 batteries. I kept 2 from the M8.2 so now I have 4. All Leica genuine (one new batch with different design). I think I'm covered for a weekend trip.

Yeah, "couple" means "2-3". I have shot preview set to only when I hold the shutter button down, and I almost never do that, so I don't run the LCD much at all. <kennyrogers>There's time enough for chimping when the shooting's done.</kennyrogers>

I have 3 for M8. Two original, one aftermarket. The aftermarket one cost $11 and works better than the two originals. The original that camera with camera only lasts for 100 shots now.

I keep one in camera, one or two in my bag, so I'll always have one spare in the bag even if I'm waiting for another battery to charge.

Total of three Leica batteries for the M9. Never a problem with the batteries and have been using the M9 for 15+ months.

Actually I had two previously,

1 Original and 1 third-party, but I read that third party batteries may cause damage to either the body or the charger so was thinking of getting another original battery..

Any comments?

Where's the best place to pick up a new battery? I only have one which has not caused me any issues, but when going on extended trips with questionable power, I would like to pick up a second.

B&H, Adorama, Amazon . . . .

I just got my fourth battery yesterday through Amazon.

I have two batteries for my M8.2. The original and one other that I bought at B&H photo that was considerably less than what the Leica dealer wanted. It's a genuine Leica battery and looks exactly the same as the one that came with my camera. Since I don't use the M8.2 a lot two is more than enough for me. - Jim

Two, both genuine. One is always fully charged as a back up.

One original, one Chinese one.

You have to fully discharge the Chinese one before you recharge in order to get a full charge.

Planning to get one more, original or Chinese.

6 hours eats up one battery.
