Mamiya 7 - some black and white wintery landscapes
Brushed off the Mamiya 7 for some black and white landscape work in the Peak District last weekend. Really happy with the reults, so much so the M7 is coming with me to the Highlands for the new year (along with my DSLR). Those 6x7 large negs look great.
Internet scans do no justice - got some lovely 16 x 12 darkroom prints, but here is a taste anyway

Beautifful, Nick! I particularly like the second image. I have this thing about smoky water shots. Whenever I see images from this camera, the GAS grows. Fortunately, at my age I realize that a good camera does not a good image make, at least from my hands.
Thank you, I enjoyed your photographs.

These images are beautiful, Nick. I can see the usefulness of MF and high resolution lenses for such scenes. Thanks.

Good stuff Nick, as always.
Merry Christmas to you and I hope the weather improves in the Highlands so you can capture its wintry stature adequately.

Gorgeous pictures. The Mamiya 7 is such a great camera, I keep telling myself I need to get one. Congrats on those great landscapes and thanks for sharing.

Beautiful work. I took a look at your flickr site and other one as well. Lovely area where you live. I've been eyeing a Mamiya 7 ii for a couple of weeks; this just makes me want to smack the piggy bank with a hammer and get one today! (Won't happen that soon, tho'. My vehicle just decided to get to the repair shop this week. I need to get a bicycle and forget that damned truck!)
Thanks for sharing, and Happy Holidays to All.
Mark

Slightly off topic but how cold and windy is it out there Nick? What sort of clothing did you used, winter trekking?

Thanks for posting. Hopefully it will inspire me to start to use my Mamiya 7 again this winter. (If it doesn't it's the fault of the inspiree).
I especially like the first one.

Thanks for all your kind comments
I have flirted with my Mamiya 7 before, but after last weekends results the love affair is back full on. Used properly it is a wonderful camera and gives me negatives about 4.5 times the size of a 45mm negative with such great detail.
I made the prints in Dave Butcher's darkroom (details on my pbase) he had a Durst enlarger (forget the model) that did 35mm or 6x7 (or 6x6 etc). I want to get one myself and start to make real prints again, I just don't have the space yet.
Most of my shots were taken with the 65mm f4, which is my standrad lens on the M7. A few were taken with the 43mm and some of the best ones were taken with the 150mm. A lot of the time it was too cold to change lenses! All shots were taken on a tripod.
Yes it was very cold. I wore many layers and long johns. The only problem was changing films or lenses when I had to take my gloves off. Changing films every 10 shots did make me a bit frustrated, but then again I didn't mind having the M7 exposed in blizzardy snow. I would be more worried doing that with my 5D II
A merry Xmas to all of you, and a happy new year of shooting
Nick

Nick, This is just stunningly beautiful work. I find it both technically and aesthetically beyond reproach. The last two images will remain in my consciousness for a long time. Thank you for sharing this with us.
All the best,

STOPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!
We have no snow yet in Kabul and so the last thing I want to see are lovely snow scenes in the UK!
Its supposed to be about 5-10 degs C colder here and a pretty well guaranteed white Xmas! Instead we have a chill, blue skies and not the slightest hint of snow I love nothing more than shooting in the heavy snow here. It transforms the place... but this year is not looking promising.

Marvellous. Great to see these shots of one of England's finer parts taken with the amazing Mamiya. I took mine, with the 43/65/150 lenses, to Norway earlier this year and it was superb.

I meant to post back when you first posted these -- but wow, what a super gift to all of us. Those photos have been haunting me ever since seeing them. Thank you.
To all on this side of the water, a good night -- to those of you east of here, a merry Xmas morning.

A great set of images NIck, I really enjoyed looking at those.
I will obviously have to go on one of Dave Butcher's courses! I met Dave briefly at the Focus on Imaging show in Birmingham last February where he had some stunning prints on display - I also have a copy of his book 'Peak Light'. I've thought since about signing up for one of his events but just haven't got around to it - life just gets in the way sometimes
