Long Exposures with the Mamiya 6

Hi all,

I'm planning to use my Mamiya 6 (w/ 75mm) for some night time long exposures in Vegas next week.

I've searched online and have yet to find an answer to my question... what is the longest shutter speed the camera will shoot at in AE mode? I know I can switch to bulb and shoot as long as I desire (though at the cost of battery life).

Also, I know the meter on the Mamiya isn't the most accurate, so I do plan to bracket.

Thanks in advance.

Burlap

I think I found my answer. When the AE mode flashes LT (long time) it will be between 1 and 4 seconds. So I'll likely be using B.

In any event, if you have any advice re using this camera for long exposures I would love to hear it. I'm planning to use a combo of Ektar 100 and Pan F+ / FP4+.

Hi Burlap,

i`ve been using my M6 very successfully at long time exposure night photography. Even in frosty wintertime, i found battery drain in "B" mode during several minute exposures not to be a problem.

Kind regards,
andreas

I recall the Mamiya 6 had a manual cable release socket on the side of the grip that allowed B usage without draining the batteries, but I'm not totally sure. Check online for the manual to verify this.

For Pete's sake, they're all good. Just get out there and shoot with what you've got!
