Unhappy Can't upload files in Gallery

Every time I try (this has happened for a while) I get this text:

Unable to create image [/var/apache/htdocs/photopost/uploads/12/COL_Dancers_2.jpg].
Please contact system administrator.

What in Sam's Hill...?

Alright, I need to pipe down...

Is this a software or hardware problem? I work on a Mac, with a HP scanner and PS 7. Usually scan slides at dpi 350 and turn them into jpgs after scanning via "Save As." Then I reduce the resolution from 350 to something like 88 or less and they're ready for uploading (I also set a certain size using the Print Preview screen).

Now, I can print my scans, but I simply can't upload them. I think my scanner is creating defective files. Should I re-install the scanner's software? I'm really frustrated ... This never ocurred to me before!

Help, please!

Have you tried saving the file as 'save for web' in PS7 and upload that version?

Have you just recently changed to PS7? I think that's where your problem is.

Instead of using Save As..., use Save for Web.

If it still doesn't work, then I don't know. Just keep on till the computer/scanner/server has a pity on you.

Hehehe sorry for the bad joke.

Welll Kris - you wasted valuable time turning on italics, smileys and typing multiple sentences

Now I just hope we're both right in our suggestion

Solares,
I've had the same problem twice, I too work on a Mac though it didn't help me when I tried on a "Pee Cee" either. It's got to be a glitch in your computer/browser software. The only way I have been able to fix it was to re-register under a different name, I have had 3 accounts here: thanz, toddhanz, and now Todd.Hanz. so I feel your frustration. Of course when you start a new account it doesn't include all the posts you have up to now, in essence you become a junior member again (the horror!). Good Luck!

Richard & Kris, I tried saving images both ways, doing the Save for Web and Save as JPG. In both cases I got the same problem.

Now, Todd... the problem I have now also shows in another place where I sometimes post, www.phototalk.net. The software used is the same so maybe I'll have to do what you said.

However, let me first reinstall the scanner software. Last time I used it, it gave me a "system error" message after scanning three slides (and working on the third in PS).

Oh, before anyone suggest it, I also did a resetting of the PS7 preferences. I'll keep you posted... and let you know if I have to create another account. I'll have to think of a new login! !

Maybe you can just crate a new account in the gallery and keep this account in the Forum. They are separate right? Confusing too though when you have to sign into both.

Hey, send me one of the files you're having trouble with and I'll see if I can load it. If I can - then it's your browser.

(rsilfver at aol dot com)

Have you;
a) cleared out all cookies,
b) cleared history and cashe,
c) tried to install some alternative free browser like Mozila's Firefox (hey, if you haven't you really should ) and tried it with that?

(For those curious Mozilla's Firefox browser is a free Internet Browser for multiple platforms such as Windows, Linux and MacOs X. Available here

I have had trouble uploading to the gallery when using other than Internet Explorer. I have tried Mozilla and Firefox. The process just seems to hang. Looking at the data with a sniffer, it appears as though the jpg transfers all the way but never gets that last frame saying all is good. Never comes. Maybe it is out of sync or something.

Alright, I don't know if your indications were suggestions or questions, Richard, but I went ahead and did them all except for getting an alternate browser. Now, after cleaning cookies, history and cache (I use only Netscape), reinstalling my scanner's software and restarting the computer and the whole shebang a number of times, I'll see to scan some images, save them for the web with the "Save for web" command, and post them in the gallery. If that one doesn't work, I'll see to create another account. And, Richard, I'll try to send you one of those files. Thanks!

I'll keep you posted!

Hi Francisco -- I use Mac OSX 10.3.4 and Netscape, and for photo editing the shareware GraphicConverter http://www.lemkesoft.de/en/graphcon.htm

I save the jpgs at 72 dpi, which is the Mac's nominal screen resolution, and (due to Photo.net requirements) 510 pixels on the horizontal side and less than 100k in file size.

Maybe lucky, but never any upload trouble...

Doug, count your blessings.

As for yours-truly, Todd's advice turned out to be the right one. I just uploaded a clumsy photo in the RF Gallery under my very new and original name: SolaresLarrave2.

Thanks a big lot! It seems I'm in business again... and with more than one identity!

Weird... sounds like a RFF site glitch of some kind. Hopefully something that Jorge can fix?

Actually, I think the problem lies in the software "vBulletin" which powers this site (according to the stament at the bottom of this page). I also subsribe to another site which uses the same and have had similar issues. Crazy computer stuff, makes me want to throw it all out and go back to the abacus!

To quote netadmin where I work. "computers are no damn good" And one from yours truely. "All I want is software that works" After having discovered more than my share of undocumented features.

Hello- I cannot upload any more pictures as of about a week ago myself.

Anyway just thought I was the only one.

It always tells me something like - image not in proper format or something like that -.

I was going to post a fireworks shot.

The only way we have found is to re-register, that means new name/password/info. Kinda sucks but thats how it worked for me.
Good luck

Something that worked for me was deleting all cookies. Suddenly, I could post photos in phototalk.net, which has software similar to the RF Gallery. However, there's some kind of catch: while I can go back and post in Phototalk under my old account, I cannot post anything in the RFF Gallery unless it's in my new account.

Weird, huh?
