Photos taken with Nikon 5cm 1:1.1 - POST HERE

The Nikon 5cm f1.1 lens is quite a legend but photos taken with it are not very common on the net.

Please post your photos here!

I do not have this lens and will almost certainly never have it but I am very interested to see how it performs, especially wide open.

Thanks in advance!

Very soft at wide open. Very narrow depth of field. In around few meters, you will have a sharp nose but not the eyes.

You mentioned in another thread that you have this lens, do you have any photos to share?

It is not VERY SOFT wide open. It isn't razor sharp either, but it is very decent.

Both wide-open:

There are more test shots on my flickr stream, but I've not developed the shots after getting my lens back from repair.

Me too!

The other day, I took some test shots with an internal mount 50/1.1 currently for sale at Lucky Camera in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Central sharpness seemed good even at f1.1, but as you'd expect from a super fast 50mm lens from the 1950's, it was pretty soft in the corners (even when stopped down to f2.8). My test shots aren't particularly interesting so I'll refrain from posting them here.

It doesn't matter. Please share, it will add to the pool!

What's the price for the one at Lucky Jon? BTW, I worked with my Amedeo adapter all day Sunday and couldn't get it to work. On top of that the thin piece of metal surrounding and just rear of the rear element touches the RF cam on M-mount cameras at all focusing distances, without filing that I don't see how any adapter could work correctly with the lens. I'd be interested in seeing your test shots. I really want a 85/1.5 now. I might just grab the cheap LTM version and use it on my Ikon.

320,000 yen but you could probably negotiate a decent discount.

After market shade and rear cap. The shade is plastic and feels like it would break instantly if bumped.

A few days late, but as promised here's a couple of the test shots I took with the internal mount 5cm f1.1 for sale at Lucky Camera. I did warn that they weren't particularly interesting

This shot is the full frame at f1.1. The fuzzy bit on the lower right side of the shot is the doorway at Lucky Camera. That's where I was standing when I took these shots.

This shot is the full frame @ f2.8. A lot more contrast than the shot @ f1.1.

These crops are from the centre of the two images above - centre of shot @ f1.1 on the left and centre of shot @ f2.8 on the right. Even the shot @ f1.1 is plenty sharp albeit with a lot less contrast and DOF than the shot @f2.8.

These crops are from the right edges of the first two images - right edge of shot @ f1.1 on the left and right edge of shot @ f2.8 on the right. Neither is particularly sharp. I'd expect a modern lens to be practically as sharp at the edge as in the centre, but that's expecting too much from this super fast 50mm lens from the 1950's.

Just to give an idea of the sharpness I would expect of a modern normal lens stopped down a few stops, here's a shot from the same roll of film taken with my reissue W-Nikkor 3.5cm f1.8 (from memory, taken at f4). The Millennium Nikkor-S 50mm f1.4 would easily be as sharp as this in the centre and on the egde by f2.8.

Full image

Crops below taken from the image above (centre crop on the left, and right edge crop on the right).

Thanks Jon, it is indeed pretty sharp for f1.1. I am quite surprised.

I once used a 50 1.1 in a lens comparison of 50mm lenses. Kiu was kind enough to lend me the lens. The lens needed some shimming, but by mistake, I used the lens on a Contax camera, and the error in shimming became less.

It's hard to tell from that scan, but that looks uncharacteristically soft.

All of these were wide open. The 4th is my favorite.
