Sell & Buy Dilemma (same old song...)

Hello

I've been thinking to buy an MP since 2008. I fell in love with the camera for some unknown reasons. I have an M6 Wetzlar, and I'm very happy with it, but now I've found someone who is looking for an M6 and wants to buy mine.

The problem is that she wants a lens and I need to sell at least one with the body to afford the MP (I want it new). I have a Summicron 35mm ASPH, a Summicron 50mm tabbed from the 80s (same era of the camera) and a Summar from 1937.

I can't sell the Summar because she won't understantd the kind of magic this lens provide. Selling the 35mm will be a mistake because I will end with two lenses of the same focal lenght. And selling the tabbed Summicron will leave me with an uncoated lens from 1937 and the 35mm 'Cron ASPH and my pics will be a lot different from lens to lens.

I'm a 50mm guy, but I'm thinking if selling the tabbed 50mm 'Cron will be the right movement. She offer me 2000€ for the M6 and the lens.

So, the question is, do you think I should sell the M6 and the tabbed 50mm 'Cron for 2000€ to finance the MP?

Sure. There would be nothing wrong with 2 very very different lenses. Until you can find a nice 50mm to replace the Summicron. Like a DR Summicron. Halfway between the 1937 Summar and the 90s 35mm Summicron.

No. Keep what you have. Get an MP finder upgrade and Leicaflex SL2 rewind knob (together < US 300) for your M6 and you have a better camera than the MP could be. You like your lenses - don't sell them.

Hi Bernie...

I would sell the M6 and the cron... I think it's a good price (mine with a modern 50mm cron was 1400$!)... If you are prone to 50mm I think it's easier to find one than a 35mm summicron, price plays on your favour too...

I have to agree with Roland here. Of course, this is all a matter of personal opinion. But, in my view, you would give up far more by selling the 50mm Summicron than you would get by moving from the M6 to the MP. If you are a "50mm guy," then it would seem to make more sense to hang on to one of the very best 50mm lenses ever made. I would wait until you had the money to cover the difference between your M6 and an MP before making the move.

Yes, sell the M6 & Summicron. You've got the itch and it won't go away. You've got a fantastic 35 ASPH to go with the MP so broaden your horizons a bit for a while. You never know, you might become a 35mm guy...

Keep your lenses, and buy a gently used MP (most of them probably are).

Brand new MP will *not* take better pictures, only cost more.

Ferider, could you tell the difference between the MP finder and the M6 finder ?
I own both cameras but cannot find the difference; maybe I did not look to the details.

I would sell the camera with the 50mm lens - you'll make the new purchaser very happy and share the delights of that lens. The Summicrons are not rare nor overpriced and you'll soon be able to replace it, or perhaps try another 50mm instead. Could you perhaps borrow the 50mm back from the purchaser from time to time? There's also the chance that she will buy a different lens and be willing to sell it back to you.

GT, compared to MP, the M6 finder is missing a condenser lens, that makes it flare easier. If you shoot against light, the M6 patch will "whiten out" earlier than the MP.

This can be upgraded though.

You've found someone who will overpay for a body and lens. I would suggest selling it as quickly as possible. It's just a camera -- not rare and not irreplaceable.

Plus, it gets you closer to your being able to afford the MP.

Don (DAG) has the SL2 brass rewind knobs (US 80). My finder was changed by Steve's camera in Southern Cal, but Don and Sherry can do that, too.

I don't think the MP is that much better than the M6. BUT, that is a great (high) price for an M6 and an 80's cron. I'd sell them. Even if it was to buy a newer cron and M6. Haha. Or a ZM 50 or whatever you want. How much do MPs go for in euros?

I bought my M6 and latest version 50 cron for $1400 total. 2000 euro seems like a lot.

What's the deal with the SL2 rewind knob? Why is it better?

Buy a 50/2 cron on eBay and sell it with the M6. 2000 € is a lot of cash for it...

I agree. You'll regret selling the 35 ASPH, where as the cron is easy to find.

And also, consider what Wll (shadowfox) suggested, look for a lightly used MP. I found one that was just like new and saved myself about $2000.

Go ahead -- rip off your friend, be left with a lens that isn't your preferred focal length, and buy an over-priced new camera that will take precisely the pictures you were able to with the one you already have....

Wow, so many answers, guys... you're AWSOME... The M6 and the 'Cron are still with me. She test the camera and thinks it's wonderful, but she is thinking. If she decides to buy I think I'm going to sell it. But I'm not in a hurry to get the MP.
