Smile About the CV Color-Skopar 50/2.5

I can't remember if it was Joe or someone else who wanted to know about this particular lens. Well, click HERE for a thread in Photo.net about this lens.

And have fun!

hey francisco, i already saw that thread. i have read a bit on the lens as i have found info but am curious about the thoughts of one of our own re. it's use.

i have to admit that as i scour ebay and various other sites looking for good deals on old lenses and camera bodies i am now starting to wonder about the wisdom of this approach. i may just save my pennies and buy cv lenses as i am able. there are some who think that going with a modern lens with newer designs and coatings is better that trying to find a good condition older lens/camera. i am starting to wonder...

although i must admit that i have fallen in love with the look of the old canon p. i just want one and that's that!!!

there is no hope...i am a camera junkie and my name is joe.

I do the same as you Joe, and I agree about the wisdom of this searching. Out side of a couple items, like the 90/4 Elmar, those great deals that everyone talks about aren't there. I have read that people have bought Canon LTM 50/1.8 lenses for $100. I haven't seen one sell for less than twice that. Used CV lenses in general sell for close to new price on ebay. That being said, I did only pay $175 for my like new in the box 75/2.5. I have no idea why that lens sold for so low, because it is silver? I really had not real intent to aggressively buyit, it was just a low ball bid I through out there and it stuck.

I really think that everyone on these boards are all looking for the same thing, and we are all bidding against eachother, driving the prices up. Sounds like we have to meet off line and get organized.

maybe we need to form our own barter society.

that was a great price for the 75, i just may have to hate you for a day or two!! (lol)

i have done well on a deal or 2 at photo.net and here also but they were more one on one than ebay type situations. plus, some people are very generous and fair and not looking to profit from others.
the russian stuff seems cheap and i hope to know more about the quality and performance soon.

other things i consider, location - being in canada, every american deal requires an exchange rate - i always lose on that. and then there's shipping, customs...plus many ebay dealers want payment in american funds too.

then again, there is that canon p...

There are bad deals galore on eBay, some good deals, and a few incredible deals. I think the trick is to keep shopping/bidding low at the last moment, but exercising restraint. Very little is unique, and a better deal is most likely soon!

Rover, that was outstanding for the 75mm lens! I got my silver one on eBay too, but for $212. OTOH I just got the 50 Skopar with adaptor for $175 on Photo.net. I also got a great deal on 50 rolls of my fav film, and a killer deal on a Pentax 6x7 package with 45mm, 300mm, 2x, and backpack last year.

There have been a few deals that I paid more than I should, mostly because I got impatient and wanted the gear now! But so far I've managed to avoid paying more than the new price! Geez, some of those guys really get carried away...

I've bought a couple things from Canadian sellers, and it worked out fine. Decent price, no problems. One was from another RFF member who was here only briefly, Ross Macdonald in Calgary.
