Leica Summarit 50f 1.5

I am wondering what the filter size and lens hood size for a Leica 50f1.5? I purchased one off of Ebay and then sent it to Sherrie (Golden Touch) for cleaning the haze. Lens looks like new but it is in meters for distance which does not bother me here in USA as I use it on an M3 and it aligns beautifully.

it's E41. not very common. but u can still see some on ebay.

mine (focuses in feet!) uses this lens shade and cap ($50 for both) from cameraquest: 41mm Screw in metal Hood, black or chrome, fits among others Leica 50/1.5 Summarit, 35/1.4 Summilux non Aspheric, 60/3.5 Visoflex Elmar, optional push on Voigtlander cap. filter size is therefore 41mm, although i've seen some special push-on (?) filters from leitz for the summarit advertised on the auction sites.

They shouldn't (because the filter thread is 41 mm) but some Hoya 40.5 mm filters fit very well on my LTM Summarit! (Other makes don't which may say something about Hoya's manufacturing tolerances - the lens isn't misshapen in any way and the thread is fine.)

I found some original Leica filters for mine at a camera show.

before that, i wrapped some teflon tape used for plumbing fixtures around 40.5mm filter threads for it. It worked.

I use the B+W 40.5mm UV filter which perfectly fit on my Leica LTM 50mm f/1.5 Summarit.

I use this same arrangement. It was on the lens when I bought it from a member here.

the Teflon tape is a nice idea. I shall use that for the eyepeice magnifier as well.

I tried a 40.5 hood but it did not fit on it. I guess it will need a 41mm lens hood. It came with a Leica filter and it doesn't appear to have any threads. I will probably need a slip-on hood if I keep the filter on it or look for a 41mm hood. I am wondering if the is a step down from 41 to 40.5?

A few years back I bought a set of Zeiss black and white filters (40.5mm) which I found to be loose when I initially started screwing them on but which tightened up nicely and were therefore quite fucntional when turned the full distance on the 41mm thread of my Summarit lens. I bought these as the original Leica ones for this lens were very hard to find.

Later though I also managed to acquire at least a couple of original Summarit filters - one UV and one orange if I recall correctly. But one thing I never did buy was the crinkle finish original hood which cost a motza. But I was luck enough to find a Walz hood for this lens - which looks very like the Summicron one with vents around the edge. So I was set to go!

All of which reminds me. I have sold my Summarit. I suppose I should put the filters and the hood on the block as well.
