Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. All Hail for the Leica Marketing Department learning Leica M history!

M9 a la carte?

Well, the price of this thing will be above 7 big ones (7000 USD), so my question is will we have a choice beyond the two colors that seem to be coming with this camera (Black or Grey Silver Paint)? I have always had silver chrome or black chrome Leicas, and the paint thing seems a little cheap to me for that kind of camera. I would like silver chrome with the classic Leica script written on top like an M3.

When I asked Stefan about an M8.2 à la carte a few months ago, I was told 'we may do, but not in the near future'.

Of course the M9 was the relatively near future then, though I didn't know it.

Here's an amusing thought. We may go back to the 1930s pricing, when paint was standard and chrome was extra!

Cheers,

R.

As soon as the sales start to decline Leica will offer whatever finish you want and the elimination of the M9 and "Red Dot' but at a premium. You just have to wait and be willing to pay the premium.
I didn't jump at the M8 and am very glad I didn't as well as saving a few $K.
I won't jump on the M( but wait until the bugs are out and I can get the camera in the configuration I want.
For the price the M9 will be along term investment in money for me and I need to assure myself that the M9 is worth the money. Otherwise its a FF Nikon SLR for my first digital foray.-Dick

Leica will always engrave the camera at request.
