Photographer NOT Terrorist website

Hi folks

I think that printing this little memo may be useful today in UK: I've spotted on another forum

http://photographernotaterrorist.org/bust-card/

Remember every cop has it fresh in his mind about a fellow cop who has been murdered during a routine stop by some coke head. Be respectful, be polite and you will be fine.

Or "I'm a photo-terrorist."

Is there an American equivalent of this card? Or are local laws too varied to make it useful?

There was a movie a decade or two back called "Road Scholar", which had a scene where the narrator is watching a phalanx of tourists taking pictures of some sight in NYC and quips that "Tourists are terrorists with cameras; terrorists are tourists with guns."

The second link is specific to photographers. It's been posted here many times. The amazing thing to me is that some RFF members, despite being shown this card, and despite the fact that Bert Krages is an attorney who specializes in the rights of photographers, still think the police have rights that they do not.

It is stupidity like that which leads directly to the demise of civil liberties.

I wish I knew the answer to stopping police violence in the first place, I would think more education, better pay, more counseling would help?

You are right it is worse when even citizens begin to believe the police have the law on their side when they misbehave.
well, we hang men so others won't steal horses, as the saying goes. That seems to have some success, maybe it should be applied to crimes by the police?

Seriously, as long as people hold on to the mentality that "the police" are their own entity rather than existing solely at the discretion of the public, this won't change. In other words, if you take the position that there is nothing that can be done, nothing will be done.

Who pays the policemen's salary? Remind them of that. If the chief of police is an elected official, elect a new one. Complain to the mayor and in letters to the editor when incidents arise, rather than shaking your head and wishing it were different. The mayor is simply a man elected to represent the city's interests. It would seem to me that the interest of any community is tied to the professionalism of the police.

But too, it is always good to remember that cops shoot, and beat, and arrest, if they feel threatened. The law means nothing when you upset them to the point where they are no longer police, but just someone you have infuriated, who has the power.

It is little comfort to be arrested, when 99.9% of the time you can easily disarm a cop with a friendly demeanor. There are times to make a stand and be arrested, but my motto is to be friendly and avoid the beatings whenever possible.
RIGHT ON!!

My brother is a detective and I know a few others cops. They're no attorneys and dont care about a little card with your "rights." They enforce the law as they perceive it. If this means you getting busted, then see ya.

Using intellectual judo is far better, just go along wit the demands, and live to run another day. Its the same strategy I use wit the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and works very well helping clients caught in its web.
