Sell it, or fix it?

I have a very nice looking Nicca IIIa. However, the shutter curtains are swiss cheese. Should I:
1) Try to sell it as a shelf queen (She is very pretty).
2) Get it repaired. Everything works fine, but the negatives are full of white spots.

Will getting it fixed increase its value enough to justify the cost?
How much would a CLA plus shutter curtains cost?

Please take a look. Thank you,

You rarely get back what you spend on repairs and CLA's; but, she looks like a nice camera if you want to fix it and use it.

Youxin Ye will work on early Nicca cameras, without Sync. You might try sending him an Email. He rebuilt my Leotax D-IV and replaced the curtains. It had been in storage for 30 years. They were a disaster.

see this thread for a current Email address for him.

Not knowing what you paid for it and what they are worth, I would say that if you got it cheap enough having it repaired would about get you even to current value. IIRC replacing the shutter curtains would not be a lot more than just a CLA as the camera has to be striped anyway. Just email a few repairers to find out how much.

Good looking camera, excellent lens. Should be used, because that's where its value lies.

I've just recently had Youxin replace the shutter curtains / CLA on my Tower Type-3, which is essentially the same camera as the Nicca III. His work was superb and the turnaround time was quite unbelievable. I think that you'll be quite pleased.

Keep us posted!

Blake, would you care to share the cost with us?

(Or even send me a PM?)

I paid $165 to have a similar job done on a Canon 7

You'll be pleased with Youxin Ye's CLA job, and he's also a great guy to deal with ;-)

My Leica M2 and Leica IIIf RD ST cameras came back to me as working brand new...
