Beautiful portrait Chris! Really moving smile - I love in this shot, how the thin DOF really focusses on the smile, making it the most important feature of the shot (in all of this too thin DOF, too fast lens discussions going on these days).

Thank you Menos! I shot a couple at once (hence why she was laughing) with smaller apertures, but i preferred this one for it's dreamy xmas-morning quality
Helps to have a pretty girl to photo in the first place of course!

I was admiring shots on a photographer's Flickr account the other day. They were these "conceptual" portraits you see of women seen commonly on Flickr. I was blown away by the use of light, film format, lens etc... Then I saw some shots of old men done with the same gear. Yuck...
Nice to see this lens still getting some love. I might get one yet.

Lol Thardy, you gotta give the old men some photo-loving too! Here's one from my M6TTL with the same 50/1.1 lens

Hi there JSU,
no problem at all. I used an M6TTL, a 6 stop ND filter on the 50/1.1 and shot it wide open on TriX 400 at box speed.
It was developed in Ilford ID11 using the timing stated in on the box, then a regular stop and wash cycle. Hung the negatives to dry.
No wet prints, directly scanned at 26MP using my Plustek 7400. As you can see, i didn't clean off every mark or dust spot off, as i generally prefer this additional texture on my TriX scans.
A little level balancing and some light localised sharpening around the glasses were the only post, image is uncropped.
Any other help i can offer, just let me know.

I saw the same man, exactly one year later at the same event, and took this photo again with, this time, the M8 and 50/2 Planar. It didn't have the same feel at all (tho i wasn't attempting to replicate the shot, but take a different one)
Still Man's Best Friend by Cris Rose, on Flickr
I love the detail in his face, the tones and the image as a whole, but the 50/1.1 gives a different enough image, whether on film or digital, that i have kept both. I've shot 2 weddings on my M8 now, both using the 50/1.1 exclusively for just that difference in image.

Not amazingly representative of the 50/1.1, but it's what i had to hand when i saw this...

I wanted to get closer to the lady who was looking at her dog while the dog was looking at her, but she started to move so I took a shot as a last resort, even beeing too far away. The move also resulted in her being blurry unfortunately.
It's HP5+ in Rodinal 1+100 60 min.
